Well, it wasn't in a bar it was outside in the parking lot. He was cussing out someone for parking too close to his vehicle. Then he hit the guy in the face but the man who got hit had some very mean friends. They were playing horse shoes and upon observing their buddy getting hit they ran over and beat the guy half to death. ( He is still in the hospital) The group is the bikers called the Vigilantes and for the most part they keep to themselves and are nice people. I believe this man brought it on himself and should have been beat. When the police arrived I said "I didn't see anything. Did I do right?

It's not confirmed they are the Viglantes motorcycle group. I was told some people like to say they are "OR" belong to a group. No one was wearing any jackets that said "Vigilante".

Remember this, If it "is" a mean motorcycle group of people and they find out you told the Police you will be killed or beat up badly. Plus I have a life and a real good job. I don't have time to go to court. Court is a waste of time.

I'm just going to mind my own business. It's really none of my business at all. I didn't see anything.

Yea! Right! Go and tell the Police. The Police can't protect you 100% of the time. If one would do the so called correct thing then the person going to the Police will end up dead.

Well, if you are asking this question of whether you did right -- odds are you did wrong, because you did nothing.

Whether or not the man deserved it, as you put it, no one DESERVES to be beaten half to death. What if this was some relative of yours? Wouldn't you want someone who observed such an act happen -- wouldn't you want them to come forward.

That is the reason why so many people do not get convicted because citizens take the attitude of "minding there own business" until that same "business" comes knocking at your door.

I was a police officer for 8.5 years and I patrolled from the ghetto to the affluent neighborhoods. When those in the ghetto reported a crime, their expectation was that we could locate the perps just because "something" happened. Nobody "saw" anything, could describe anyone not even the car they were driving (if it was a driveby shooting.) Nobody wanted to get involved because they were afraid. Well, when resident criminals know you are afraid, they keep on doing exactly what they do, the legal residents keep on doing what they do (see, hear, speak no evil); and the police keep on doing what they do as a result of the law abidding citizen not making a statement -- we do NOTHING!

Once I worked a burglary and the next door neighbors were breaking up from a family reunion. Thing is these people saw the perps. When I asked what did they look like --there response "we're not going to tell you go look for them." Then one guy said well he was black. I said then if that be the case, I can arrest you!

The thing is, the police can't make your neighborhood safe because they don't live there. Only you can prevent your neighborhood from becoming a drug haven and drive by shooting alley. Call the police, identify the suspects, show up in court and tesitfy against these idiots, because that's exactly what they are, idiots.

The real question is if you should get involved, when this doesn't really concern you. Obviously, the man who got the beat down can tell the police who had beat the hell out of him, without your help. So, what exactly do you hope to accomplish by stepping forward?

The second question is the morality of the assailants. Do you think it's right for the people to perform physical violence? I believe you would say, "No." Punching a guy in face is something that shouldn't have been done regardless of the verbal arguement. Third, do you think it's okay for friends to defend and protect other friends from harm? I think you would agree that not only should they, but you would even go as far as saying that it should be expected! If I had friends who say me getting punched in the face, I'd expect them to come and help!

I don't think you should worry over this subject any longer. I agree with you that the man brought this upon himself. The police would likely agree that he had brought it on himself, as well. It isn't likely they'll be pressing any charges.

It's a good idea that you didn't try to stick your nose in this; it doesn't concern you.

You really should've told the cops what you saw when they asked. Now, if they find out you did see what happened and didn't speak up, you can be charged with ....now I forget the terms.

During the investigation, police charged 23-year-old Charise Cheatom of Pittsburgh with two counts of hindering apprehension and one count of false reports to law enforcement, her attorney Angela Carsia said.

Carsia said investigators asked Cheatom whether she had information about a car and certain individuals, and accused her of not verifying information about a man they said was in her apartment. Police didn't say whether the man was a suspect. Cheatom and another man were taken into custody Monday.

And, if the guy dies, you could get into even more trouble. I'd go to the police station and tell them what you saw. You can tell them you were drunk, shocked, surprised, whatever.

Take the guy in the hospital some flowers and tell him next time to keep his friggin mouth shut. And ask him if he realizes how much stress he put you under. selfish bast*rd anyway!! If he cant handle his booze, and go out without causing trouble, then maybe he should consider staying home. And I'm guessing that if these "mean" people were driving vespas it would have all been different??

Wow, that is a tough one. Puts you right in the middle of something for no particular reason. Tell you what, I am going to pose this question to a friend who is a retired cop and see what he thinks. I will add to this answer later.

Talked to the guy. He basically said you should have pulled a gun and shot that bastard between the eyes.

Er, I wouldn't worry about the police report myself.

I'd say out of it. Guy starts fight, lashes out first, gets what's coming to him. Sounds like he deserves what he got, and doesn't sound like you want to be involved at all in a situation like that. Do you really want to go to court and accuse a gang of something only to have to go through cross examination and possible reprisals? The moral of the story is don't go around hitting people.

there are times to say no to violence and times to say yes if the two men involved had keeped to themselves fine but when you have say six men on one man no that isnt fair, so yes you should have spoken up, lets turn the table say that man was a friend of yours drunk and outspoken and you watched your friend getting beat how would you feel.No one deserves to be beat half to death for any reason, but whats done is done.one on one is a fair fight so bikers stay in packs why ?

No, you should have reported it, and you still can. Go to your local police station and tell them what you saw. If you just let the know that you were in shock and scared to report it at the scene they a likely to be understanding. Any information can be helpful to their investigation.
