The websites like Priceline, Cheap Tickets, Hotwire, Lowestfare.com, Sky Auction...and many others like these sell highly restricted fares. You do not get to choose your flights, times or anything else. You have no flexibility in the schedules or if you need to change anything. You CAN NOT for any reason change these tickets and the airlines will not touch them if there is a problem. The name your own price can take time, and you are running out of it. If your dates are flexible, try departing on Saturday or Monday.

Priceline's disclosure before naming your own price:
Savings are not guaranteed and will vary based on offer price and availability. Airfares are subject to change frequently and there is no guarantee that an offer will be accepted. Priceline's Name Your Own Price® service is different from other travel sites. Exact airline and flight times are disclosed only after purchase. All sales are final.

The best way to save any money on airfare is to book 30 days in advanced. Larger airports are going to have cheaper fares than smaller ones. They dont discount those cities much if at all ever. Right now you are looking at 14 day advanced purchase, so you may have the last option for a discount fare. Sunday's are generally an expensive to day to fly. Right now you are looking at a base fare of $340 before taxes on AA. On American you can go non-stop from Austin (AUS) to San Jose (SJC) for $390 after taxes, you can depart on July 9th, but the return would be the 16th instead of the 17th. Non-stop is always the best option and saving $30 to connect isnt always the best option. You have more chance of being caught in a delay or you luggage being delayed or "lost".

If you change your departure on AA to Saturday, its $360 after taxes. But these flights are already in an oversold position, there are no seats left to select, however they do block several rows, so you would just be waiting for your seat assignment at the gate instead of pre-assigning.

Southwest operates from Austin to Oakland and San Jose, but their discount fares Saturday, Sunday and Monday are already gone.

You can also check San Francisco (SFO) and Oakland (OAK) as well. All 3 airports are relatively close to one another and called co-terminals.

Start with Orbitz, see what the airlines are available. Try different dates if you can and the cities I mentioned. Then go to the airlines website and check schedules and price compare. You'll avoid the travel sites booking fee's.

If you do choose to go with a site like Priceline or any other deep discount website, make sure you READ ALL OF THE FARE RULES because they are binding.

Good luck!
