The IRA was a group of Irish freedom fighters or terrorists. Depending on who's side you were on. Their main goal was to get rid of British rule over Ireland. Their main tactic was setting off bombs in London.

firstly they have now disbanded (which is more than any of the loyalist "loyal to the crown" groups have achieved , in the past they had waged a paramilitary campaign on and off the British mainland, they are terrorists they had been trying to secure a British pullout on their occupation of northern Ireland the old IRA brigades of 1916 freedom fighting campaign were more respected than the modern day equivalents , who are seen as terrorists only they have political representation in the political party sin fein

The want all of the Island of Ireland to be be under Catholic Republic of Ireland control. In other words they want Northern Ireland and to rake it away from the Protestant United Kingdom. The IRA is noted for its terrorism. It have split into different competing groups in recent years because of internal bickering.

They were fighting for independence from the British in Northern Ireland. They succeeded 80 years ago in Eire (Ireland).
