hmm feels wierd to answer something like this. since 8 other people tryed and failed to answer ur question properly.

Unfortunately i cant fully respond to ur question either. since i have limited info on ur room type, TV watching habbits and stuff like that.

But ill give u a break down for all 3.
Quick things out of the way, between LCD and DLP, DLP will always look better, better detail and better colors. SO that takes LCD rear projections out of the question.

Now between LCD and Plasma. now this depends on, first, the type of ur room.
Now plasma does look better when viewed at a showroom, but if u have a moderately bright room LCD will look better then a plasma.
And in a semi dull room plasma will look better.

Other thing, most people think plasma has "burn-in" issue, its the thing that LCD marketters have used out of context way too much to drive LCD bussiness.

Actually, plasmas have whats called an image retention. in the better brands only affects the plasma in the first 200-700 hours of use. After that the TV gets broken in and doesnt let it happen.Unless u leave something with bright colors on pause for a VERY long time(3+hours). Now even then, most manufacturers have whats called a washout. where the TV displays a bright white screen to offset any retention. But this does take away from the life of plasma.
But lets say u have something burnt in to the plasma it cures itself if u just watch TV regular with other things being displayed.

Then people alway believe LCD outlasts a plasma. Yes VERY true. but when was the last time u kept anything electronic for more then 12-15 years? Both of them panels will last atleast that long.

LCDs are generally more expensive due to the cost that goes into building one.

As far as best deal goes......
buy from a manufacturer that makes there own product so ur paying any extra.
what do i mean, well for example a few yrs ago SONY had a line of plasmas, but since they did not own a plant, they bought there plasma panels from either pioneer elite or fujitsu. Now fujitsu plasma TVs would b 4000$ and sony's would be 4500$, why? well sony paid a premium for that panel and they have to make it back.

LG would b the best bargain because they own there stuff, next would be samsung. in plasmas and lcd.

however the BEST plasma out in the market is the pioneer elite.

anyways hope it helped somewhat.

LCD! LCD! LCD!

Here are few reasons why LCD scores over projection TVs.

1. Though projection TVs come in larger sizes, the resolution is no more larger than LCDs (that is max resolution of a rear projection is same as LCD 1920 x1080)

2. Rear projection - expensive repairs. Rear projection TVs have light engines to direct light. These are expensive and have limited life time. Mechanical mis-alignments of Prisms & Light Engines can happen if care is not taken.

3. Power consumption of rear projection TVs are much higher

4. LCD TVs are lighter, less power hungry, backlight has 25-30 times longer life than the light engines of rear projection TVs, less bulky and can be hung on wall

i'm in the same boat. i can't pick one either they all have good pictures but you have to look at the weakness of each set. which are you willing to live with. for me it's lcd flat panel or lcd rear projection i know that the black level is not as good & other things but i can live with that mostly sony lcd rear projection & as for flat panel sony or westinghouse. now the others plasma -burn in is still a issue, consumes too much energy, repair issues & dlp not that big of a deal but the bulb is very expensive as high as 400bucks & besides i'm not really that impressed with them.so look at the weakness of each & you may have a better idea of what you would like (hint - lcd rear projection is the best bang for buck out there you can find a sony 50in. for less than 2,000)something to think about.

if you want to hang on the wall, then projection is out of the question. although they have gotten much thinner, a projection lcd or dlp still measures about 18in thick. i prefer the DLP projection because of the quality of the picture and because there is virtually nothing that needs to be serviced, aside from the lamp. look for high contrast ratios for projection sets, like 2000:1 or better. it will make blacks looks really black and in low light movie situations, the picture will be better defined.

I bought flatscreen TV 2 years ago and went through the same decision-making process.
In the end I went for plasma - bigger screen for less money - and I've never regretted it.

Philips - good brand

Plasmas: Cheaper, better for dark rooms as they display blacks better, very slight concern with image burn-in and age-ing

LCD: More expensive, less issue with image burn-in and age-ing
