So say the Catholics that God gave priest the power to forgive sins. So, if their God is willing to forgive any and all sin, so would the priests

Catholic priests don't forgive sins. God do. But did Jesus not tell you to forgive the sins of your brethren against you?

Technically, only God can forgive the sin. Priests are just a middle-man, meant to counsel parishoners to avoid sin and provide a form of penance.

The Catholic Church believes that "Only God forgives sin." Any sin.

When a penitent person asks God for forgiveness, his (or her) sins are immediately forgiven.

Catholics also believe that when someone sins they not only hurt their relationship with God, they also injure the entire church, the body of Christ. The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation not only reconciles the sinner to God but with the entire church, including you and me.

With love in Christ.

The only one who can forgive you of your sins is the one you have sinned against. If you haven't sinned against the Priest in your relationship with him then he cannot forgive you.

All sin is against God (Psalm 51:4). Hence, only God can forgive you of all your sins.

The majority of the answers to this question will be NO. The reason is that there is only mediator between God and man and that is Jesus, there is no other name or person who has been given the ability to "take away the sins of the earth (man's)". Please read the Bible. There you will find the answers to your questions. The New Beginners Bible is in modern day language that anyone can understand. May you take the opportunity to meet God directly through His word.

the way i see that it works is that only those who belong to the body of Christ can forgive the sins of the other body parts of Christ. i see a large seperation between catholics and christians and do not consider catholics to be part of the body of Christ and therefore they do not have the power to forgive sins. we were always told to seperate ourselves from people like that because they have brought a lot of baal worshipping and pagan religions into their religion.
