First, it is true that most information comes from the media. That's why you probably can't remember the last time you heard an actual troop speak out about the War, unless they were against it. Simply put, a troop speaking out for the War doesn't sell! And this media filter we see is only getting worse as our younger generation increasingly fails to do the smallest modicum of research on their own and rely more and more on the media to make the decisions for them.
As for what will happen if a single person or entity controls the media I would suggest reading 1984. I think that book more than anything else sums up the problems that we face today when the populace fails to do the most simple amount of personal research. And I'm NOT arguing that Bush is controlling the media which is retarded since the media is bent on selling their wares and nothing sells better than controversy in the White House which is why they keep going after the President. Instead, I'm arguing that it's a small group of elitists at the top: the Ted Turners and Ruper Murdochs, etc.

A good question. We are being manipulated constantly by the media. The news and current affairs are prepared in such a way as to appeal to our weaknesses. Feelings of inadequacy lead to wanting to find fault with other people, so racism, sexism (which works against men as well as women but often in more hidden ways) and all the other "isms" can be used to manipulate us - while we are criticising each other we are not noticing the real problem which is that the manipulators are making money from these weaknesses in us all. While they are laughing all the way to the bank! They think they are getting a better deal (If they think at all) but in the end everyone loses because the world is a worse place for all, including them. No-one is safe from the violence that these methods cause. So I would say when you read something in the newspapers or see something on TV ask yourself who stands to gain by what has been presented there. If you keep an open mind you will eventually become aware of what is going on. I would say that lack of awareness is the major problem of the human race and makes us easy prey for these tactics.

People that hear things reported in the news always assume they are true. When usually they are not true especially in the political ring. Even local news can be "untrue" a lot of the time.
Most of the time it is reported with what is called a "slant". That means the person reporting it has personal feelings about something and he is trying to convince you to feel the same way. So they won't tell all the truth or maybe even twist the truth a little to make it more believable. So when you watch the news or read a newspaper just remember that the head of that news station or the head of that newspaper will only put into it what he or she wants told or how its told.

The media is supposed to be neutral and unbiased, however they no longer are. The only thing they are intreseted in is ratings. They are no longer interested in the truth. Ratings are better when the media is biased negative then positive, because it is easier for people to think negative then positive. For every negative story they air they could air a positive one, however it may hurt the ratings so they won't.
