International students do not get social security numbers, since they are here on student visa.
Only U.S. citizen, permanent residents (with green card), and temporary (working) residents (with work visa) are eligible for social security numbers.

Your SSN is yours for life. If, in the future, you go back to the US to study, work , or live permanently as an immigrant, you just continue to use it. If you accumulate enough quarters, you can receive Social Security benefits even if you retire to live outside the US.
