Our personal perception of what the scriptures say divides us. Many religions take a verse out of the bible and start a new religion. Some of the new religions do not use God's word in their religion.

Immigration promotes the diversity in American religion. The many different cultures that contribute to the American culture. There are alot of Anglos (whites) in America, but there is also alot of black people, asians, hispanics, Carribeans, and many other people from many different and diverse ethnicities and cultures. This makes some of us Americans take a more global view on things like religion.

There is no American Religion. The true American religion is not Christainity, but that which existented before Americans came. That religion is from the Native Indians.

But regarding diversity in America, what promotes it - go to Abraham Lincoln's statue and you'll see that it says, roughly "All Men Are Equal speech."

Actually its not a speech, I forgot what you call it, but it's what USA stands for. The land of Free and Equality to all.

The constitution is supposed to allow diversity and guarantee that there is no establishment of religion.

There are exceptions. For example, the government attacked the Branch Davidian Church (yes, it was a church) at Waco. And some people cheered them on just because they were an odd ball religion.

I am not american but I suppose multiculturalism by default will imply diversity in religions. Furthermore Americans are more tolerant. (though I am not saying that such a situation is necessarily a good thing)

People who don't agree with what their church focuses on or their church's doctrines will go and start their own.

Also, you don't get burned at the stake anymore for being a heretic. People generally(it does happen) don't get punished for starting or publicly following whatever religion they want to.

Freedom of religion is a right in the Constitution.
America is a country of immigrants. Each country, culture and ethnic group brought its different beliefs with them.
