Well, I've had problems with insomnia on and off for ages. One of the best things I've found that helps me go to sleep at night is a supplement called melatonin. "At night melatonin is produced to help our bodies regulate our sleep-wake cycles. The amount of melatonin produced by our body seems to lessen as we get older. Scientists believe this may be why young people have less problem sleeping than older people."

It has other added benefits like strengthening your immune system. You can buy it at your local health food store, a GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, or online at any vitamin store. It HELPS you get to sleep, it doesn't knock you out or anything, and it doesn't leave me with that "sleep hangover" you get from Nyquil.

You also can try making more of a pattern of your routine, and firmly establishing bedtimes for yourself....I know that sounds rather childish, but your body will eventually adapt to any routine you set for yourself. You can try other methods like taking a nice relaxing bath a bit before you go to bed. You can try visualization techniques to rid yourself of stress, if you worry too much and can't fall asleep. Regular exercise will help, too.

First of all I suggest you take one 3 mg. of Melatonin 30 min. before sleep. I have used this for 15 years and it is a natural
hormone that your body makes but decreases as you get older.
It helps with many other things besides sleep like "jetlag", helps a woman have a more normal cycle. Don't eat a large meal before bed. I like to use a sound machine with ocean sounds or they have a lot of CD's like this with nature sounds. And if you seem to be tired a great deal during the day, you might want to check to see if you have "sleep apena". I do and have to use a machine at night to make sure I don't stop breathing, it can cause death.

Exercise several hours before you plan to go to bed, don't drink caffinated beverages or eat sugary or very fatty foods afterward (they'll keep you up). Best idea long term, work yourself into a consistent sleep schedule, so that you're getting around 8 hours a night. The exercise will help with energy during the day, too.

this is a personal fix, I'm a complete insomniac (if you can't tell, hah) but...
I work out about an hour before I know I want to sleep @ night. and I DONT eat before, that will keep you up for sure. Your body needs endorphins to boost good old sleepy serotonin ("happy" or feel good thing your body makes to make you feel happy/relaxed) levels in your bloodstream and brain so that you can both physically and mentally be ready for bed. you'll wake up earlier and more energized, too. oh and it helps to not be on the computer for long-*** periods of time early in the morning;) haha

Yes, stay up all night one night and then go to sleep at the 'proper' time the next night. From that point on, don't drink anything with caffein in it 8 hours before the proper time.

Ashley has a great suggestion, MELATONIN is a safe effective natural supplement. Both my 14 year old and me use it on occasion. No lethargy or grogginess

Stay off the computer at night. It stimulates the brain and keeps you awake.
