didn't the "creator" of scientology openly admit that he basically pulled that religion out of his @ss just to make money? If so, why do people still follow that religion?

Scientology: Anatomy of a Frightening Cult

by Eugene H. Methvin

In the late 1940s, pulp writer L. Ron Hubbard declared, "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion."

I think People believe a lot of things because they are afraid. In this case, afraid of death. Someone once wrote and preached that there was a "God Part of the Brain". wherein the author described that people, groups or whole civilizations created a higher power, to reassure themselves throughtout life, and especially death. Kinda like how you always felt safe when your parents were around when you were a kid. honestly I dont know why people follow crazy religions, but the thoery makes sense.

Because they get free marketing when high profile actors become members. By recruiting these famous people they get access to lots of money and many fans of these actors follow them to this cult like lambs.

I saw that they have a church/building in Beverly Hills just for the Hollywood celebrities and membership is very exclusive.

Good question! Basically, humans are always searching for answers, nice, neat explanations that they feel comforting, the scientologists are those who feel this science fiction based spirituallity has the answes for them! - I even know of a group that worship starwars and the force as an actual religion - what ever floats your boat! There are many who have the wrong idea about me and my kind - Im a witch and we have been villified and persecuted for hundreds of years because another religion fears our independant and woman empowering spirituality! we arent evil, we dont worship the devil- so live & let live ...as we say, if it harms none, do as thou will!

To tell you the truth honey, I don't know why, it must be some celebrity fad, some of the richest people are members, John Travolta, Tom Cruise,,, I think that they are too blinded in their money to realize what religion is. Unfortunately, suckers like them fall for that type of bullshit every single day.

I believe it was L. Ron Hubbard's personal philosophy. Just for himself. The thing that got him through the day. It was in one of his books, if I were to guess, I'd say it was "Dianetics." Now, while L Ron Hubbard was able to tweak his philosophy to suit his needs, subscribers to Scientology may not be able to do such a thing, depending on whether they're individual thinkers or not.

It may not be for everybody.

Because once you've bought into a religion, you turn off your brain and find it very easy to dismiss any challenges to it. Sometimes you invent your own "logic" to counter the critics, and sometimes you parrot whatever your church or whatever tells you to think about it.
