It's like announcing to the world, "hey I'm desperate". Most girls are already insecure. Pointing out their desperation on yahoo just makes them even more insecure.
When you recognize a girl in person, don't embarrass her. Instead be smart and use the info to realize she is out looking as well. So if she starts giving you some lame excuse about her boyfriend, etc. then you know she is lying and is not interested in you.

I don't know why you would post your name on a personals page and then be embarassed if someone saw it. Kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? I haven't put my name down because I'm still hoping I'll find someone on my own but if I did join the personals I wouldn't be embarassed about it.

I think it's because it sort of... reeks of desperation to some people. Honestly, I was on there, and I wouldn't be embarrassed, because to me, it's just another place people can go to meet others. But yeah, desperation, that might be it. Also, internet dating sites still have a stigma associated with them when it comes to most people.
