There is always a 50% chance of death when you do anything, because there are two options, live or die.

I know a lot of people who have gone through the gastric bypass (about 5 or 6) only one of them that I know of had complications a few months after the surgery.

She caught it before it was too late. Her intestines were wrapped up and twisted and she couldnt poop for a few days, she felt sick and called her doctor.

I would support your mom if she is significantly overweight. This could change her life for the better.

If you dont support the surgery, you should start a weight loss regime with your mom, go the gym with her, diet with her, even if you dont need to, be her support, if you can get her to lose the weight without the surgery you both will be much happier, and youll both look good in the end, and slim chance of death.

50% chance of dying doesn't sound right. Maybe 50% success rate. That sounds more accurate, but I've not heard of anyone dying from the operation. Thing is, if your mom is obese to the point where the Drs recommend the surgery, she's probably better off with it because without it, she's more likely to have serious problems.
Don't worry about the death rate. Like the other people said: support her and be positive (even if you have to fake it). These operations are becoming common now and the doctors today are so good at what they do. Sure, there's always the risk, but there's also a risk of getting hit by a car when you cross the street. Relax. Chances are she's going to be just fine. Good luck.

I had this surgery done on June 7th. Honey, support your mom. The risk of death is 1% not 50%. I am doing very well. Lost 27 lbs in the first 2 weeks after surgery. She will be healthier and happier. There is risk with anything especially when anesthetic is involved. Think of it this way, What is the risk if she doesn't have the surgery?? Its probably higher...........support her..she needs you right now.

Homeopathy :-
Can you ask her too send her details I think she can be cured without a surgery. But I have to know exactly how and what she feels in her own words and her medical history will be of additional help. I don't need the doctors diagnosis just her symptoms exactly the way she feels them. Homeopathy treats the person not the disease and that is why it is so effective and works where everything else fails or does not work. And has no side effects and causes no complications.
Take Care and God Bless

50 percent is WAY WAY too high. I doubt any surgeon would undertake such a risky procedure. Report this to the head of surgery at the hospital where your mother is scheduled to have surgery. Ask why they're operating on a woman who only has a 50% chance to survive. I'm sure they'll want to know why too.

Hi there! Your mom has just the same chance at dying overweight as with the surgery.....My parents were very worried about me having the surgery (I had mine in 2000 and have lost 130 pounds and maintained it), but they supported it because they knew that in the end I would be healthier and happier. Good luck to your mom! :)

Morbid obesity=%100 chance of death, %100 chance of a lack of self-esteem, %100 chance of unfortunate public redicule, ...you get the idea.

It really depends on how bad you Mom really needs it. I've known 2 women who've had the surgery and they're both doing fine and have lost a lot of weight. Of course the decision is your Mom's, and it's good that you are concerned for her.

I had surgery nearly 3 years ago. I was never scared of the actual operation. I was more worried about what would happen to me if i DIDNT have the surgery. It's worth the risk, especially if shes diabetic or has other health problems.

My friend got that done and she lived through it just fine. Now shes lost like 200 pounds and she looks great and she is much more healthier. I'm sure she will be fine. The pros overwhelmingly outweigh the cons. Just support your mom through whatever she decides. Don't worry everything is going to turn out good. just have positive thoughts

Dont worry about the surgery, My husband had the surgery last year in Nov due to serious health reasons. He is doing great. He has lost 127 pounds. Just make sure your mother is doing it for health reasons and not vanity reasons.
