I'm interested to know how many human lives have been taken in the name of religion or justified by some religious belief. Preferably, I'd like it to be broken down per religion.

Well, Revelation18:24 refers to false religion (Chirstendom included) as being responsible for "the blood of prophets and of holy ones and of all those who have been slaughtered on the earth". So I would say quite a few. Of course there is a religion that refuses to participate in warfare and thus cannot be held accountable for the atrocities...(Isaiah 2:3, 4)

Certainly much less than secular nationalism's death toll of 40 million in WWII in Europe, 20 million in Russia.. millions more in various communist countries.

If you go back in history as well, you will see Atilla the Hun, Alexander the Great, Roman emperors and marauders, Genghis Khan and his hordes killing more people than religion ever killed.

Perspective is important for everything. Religion alone on any side (Muslim, Jewish or Christian and others) puts restrictions on killing human beings or even animals unjustly.

Why pick on religion alone?

i cant give you all the details you want, but id say that probably about 75% of deaths in the history of mankind are in the name of some religion or of some sort of religous motive.

You will need to specify a time frame. I also suggest limiting it to religions currently practiced. numbers for Zoroastrians would be less than usefull and difficult to come by.

they are many of them maybe millions in a year. we might not know how many because most of they are not told weather they are dead or still alive. they are killed in cruel way and some just die because of sickness while spreading the word of god around the world. keep them in prayers. christians should be the top of this chart.

I don't have exact figures, but I would have to say hundreds of millions over the course of history.
