might it have to do with the angle of the rain? if it's straight down, 45 degrees, blown by the wind, etc... this is hard to wrap my mind around even though it comes from a reputeable publisher. it seems like if you run, you're in the rain for less time, which equates to less wet...thoughts?

Yes, it is true that you get just as wet if you run than if you walk. The reason is, no matter the speed you are travelling, you will still pass through the same amount of distance, in which drops of rain are falling.
