It would depend on the age difference and how old you are now. Just because he was a school principal doesn't mean he is not a predator. If you suspect this then you need to stay away from him. It sounds a bit strange to me.
If there is not much difference in ages; I don't see a problem as long as you both are mature consenting adults. You did say former principal. Don't attempt this if you are under age.
