Special DVD burning software is not required to write or read DVD-RAMs on a computer. So I'm not sure why it can't read it unless its not a DVD burner drive.

First of all let me tell you Waht DVD means

It means Digital Versatile Disc. It is the newer technology of CDs The general difference being that DVD can store data upto 4-5GB whereas CD can only store upto 700MB means data is more condensed on DVD than on CD. The hardware difference is that in DVD the distance between head and Disc surface is less than that in CD.

For DVD-RAM you can find on the following link

For DVD-R you can find on following link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-R

I think its is better than cutting and pasting the content from the source
