Start with a weight you are comfortable with and do ten reps, add five pounds and ten more, add five and ten more. Then move on to another part of the body. The important thing is to not make your self so sore the first few times or you will not feel like doing it the next time.Keep it light until you get used to it.

To start, if you are over 35, have a medical exam to get his/her ok to start. If this is given, before you invest in lots of expensive workout equipment, or big gym memberships, perhaps you would like to start with some exercises that would just use your body weight, or partial weight for resistance. If you would like to get started with your legs, doing range of motion exercises (stretching) might be what you would need to get definition in your legs. Also, doing some exercises such as mini-squats would help to increase the resistance to your upper legs. Toe-raises would be good for increasing the resistance to your calf muscles. You could also do push ups to add resistance to your upper extremities. Lastly, do not forget the core muscles! A series of crunches would be good for increasing the work done by your stomach muscles. Good luck, and if you would like some more advice, contact me.
