How did the tick come off? On it's own or with a little motivation from the tweezers? Ticks are like living pimples they get embedded in your skin so when they come off a little swelling would not be abnormal. Little swelling as in mosquito bite swelling. Not encephalitis swelling. If you squeezed the tick at all when and if you removed it then you should bring your dog to the vet. Squeezing the tick causes the blood that it has sucked to reenter the dogs bloodstream with whatever if any contaminants were in the tick.

There is always some minor swelling after pulling off a tick. Just keep an eye on the area. If you see a red ring develope around the bite area, go to the vet.

How long has it been? If it's been longer than 7 to 10 days and the swelling has not gone down, then, yes, you should get some professional help with that.

Ticks also carry some nasty diseases, do you know if it was a grass tick (browny-red colour) or a paralysis tick (whitish opaque) The paralysis tick can kill a dog quite quickly so a trip to the vet might be best if you aren't sure.

if you pulled it out and didnt get the head out with the body...it could leave some swelling...if it doesnt go away in a week then there may be an infection.
