My co-worker's wife is having surgery this coming Monday, The surgery is relatively minor, but she will be incapacitated for a month or 2 (foot surgery). In a friendly sort of gesture, I would like to take over a little "something" to say "wishing you a speedy recovery." My co-worker is kind of an old school southern man, so I think he and his wife would appreciate the gesture. Should I take over some sort of entree ( casserole, lasagne, etc), or a nice home made pie (pecan, apple, etc)?

An old school Southern man and his wife would appreciate a proper Southern meal, i.e. Southern fried chicken with potatoes, biscuits, salad and apple pie to conclude.

It's very kind of you to think of doing this and I'm sure
whatever you take will be appreciated.
I would suggest a baked ham or turkey breast -- either
of which can be used in various ways.

Friends like you are priceless. I know cause I've been lucky
enough to have some over the years who are ready to help
when needed.

take either one, but be sure to take something that will freeze well, then they can use it later on in the recovery when other ppl forget and quit helping them out! or wait a week or two after the surgery and take something then!
