does he really want us to stone sinners, cut off our right hand for sinning (i realize some stories in the bible are fables). so if we don't want to cut off our right hand or whatever, we just classify that lesson as a fable and interpret the verses as a metaphor for something else?

i believe that the bible is a remarkable collection of historical documents that should be studied by everyone.

i'm not attacking the bible. i'm expressing my conflicts and i appreciate getting others perspectives. thanks :)

Eye for an eye is an example of an OT law that has been fulfilled with Jesus' death. Many verses can be misinterpreted or manipulated to fulfill a hidden agenda. To figure out if u have the right interpretation (and there could be several correct ones), compare what you're reading with other verses and passages, and see if they contradict. Some passages in the NT are obviously figurative and not to be taken literally. Others tell moral stories about where our hearts should be, but do not answer the original question asked (to divert the questioner's attention from him so he wouldn't get arrested?). I think that only further introspection can help you really figure this one out.

The Mosaic Law from which you are referring was given to the nation of Israel, who were in a covenant arrangement with God.Jesus ransom sacrifice did away with the Law.
There are no fables in Gods Holy Word.Jesus in trying to help the people understand his teachings, related alot of lessons by way of parables.
Other parts such as the book of Revelation contain alot of symbolism. And again there are no fables in the Bible.
The Bible is a collection of books that have been put together under inspiration and preserved down to our day for our benefit,so that we can learn what is and what isn't acceptable to our Heavenly Father. There are countless lessons contained in it that we can learn from.
The Bible also contains many principles that are still applicable today.
The Bible is God's instruction manual for us
Everything contained in it is for our benefit -2Tim.3:16-17.

What makes you think the bible is supposed to be scientificly perfect? I don't belive it's perfect in the first place, but thats a totally different subject. Though I am a christian.

God gave prophets in the bible revelations for his day, not to know all the scientific truths in the age. The prophets mentions what they thought to be true according to their time. The prophets don't need to know about science, neither to we to be perfectly blunt, though we can learn if we want to. You will notice that none of those scientific principles were taught by the prophets, they only mention them, like it was common knowlege at the time.

The whole point of the bible is spiritual and moral truth, we are to be concerned with our place after this life. Why would god want to teach us science? Science only builds pride and makes people feel smarter than God. You will notice that people are increasingly starting to wander away from god and trust in science more than him.

I don't agree. I am a firm believer that Science and the Bible go hand in hand. That God is not a God of deception... and that for those who have not found the answer to some of these questions should search or ask others who have.

I have searched... I have done my homework.

Good book... written by a former atheist professer who is well know all over the world.

"New Evidence that Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell.

He has written other books as well. But that one is his latest.

The Old Testament does not apply to us because we are under the New Covenant. Jesus was sacrificed once for all of our sins. Your so called scientific errors are nothing more than Satan using everyting within his power to cause doubt among us. The fact is that science has a lo0t more flaws in it than people give it credit for, but we take much of what scientist say as absolute truth without considering it or challenging their answers. The mere fact that they are human suggests that there is error there. The human mind can only comprehend so much. It is much easier to accept things as they come than it is to challenge what is thrown our way.

Okay, I read you "scientific errors" and well... it doesn't convince me. They gave one example of Jacob doing something with superstitions.

Other than that, it was only the Genesis accounts which were considered "errors". I don't believe them as errors, because God did create the universe and did it in six days.

You can't "scientifically" say it's right or wrong, because you can't verify the past scientifically. You can do it historically using written accounts or with eye-witnesses. And, no, I don't believe in evolution.

So... where are your scientific errors?

The reason for the inconsistensies is that the Bible was written by man/men and used solely to manufacture consent.

The truth of the matter is that if you look at the history of religion you will find acts that range from the most inhumane to the most inspired......you choose which one you want to represent you.

i'm seeing such incredibly some people holding that previous chestnut with regard to the previous testomony and the hot being so very diverse. that's humorous, what with you modifying the genuine spoken notice of god and all... ought to that no longer be a sin? incredibly that the hot and previous testomony rather at the instant are not very diverse. The verses full of rape, ritual human sacrifice, slaughter of innocents and plunder and slavery are all nonetheless there, all nonetheless glistening like a festering boil, merely waiting for us to poke it so they are in a position to all say "It on no account pronounced that", or "It advance into meant for a various time". and who's it that makes a decision that's for what time? the least confusing occasion is the place it states a guy won't lie with yet another guy interior the way he does with a woman (missionary impossible. get it?) And our known church-goers, the loudest ones a minimum of would be up in palms saying "OOhhh! Gays! gay is undesirable! gay potential they are going to hell! shun them!" and approximately 2 words later, it says what god might such as you to do with those people: Kill them. At which factor, all and sundry of them will take a step decrease back and mutter approximately that stuff being for a various time whilst adult men have been women folk and adult men people have been slaves. (unusual notice. now it says that adult men shouldn't lie interior the missionary place... it says no longer something approximately gay marriage or lesbians. sounds like they're proper) So. the place is the line drawn? the place do we elect what's meant to be left to Jerusalem and what's modern-day? "Love thy neighbor" i will see that working in a known environment... what approximately that passage in Deuteronomy that broadcasts so which you may bloodbath an entire city if one man or woman does not have faith in god(Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)? ought to that be left interior the previous and... forgotten? or ought to we merely hate a neighboring city in the event that they dare to harbor a grimy sinner? until now i pass, one final passage. (Judges 21:10-24 NLT) i inspire you to look it up, study it. it rather is what they worship and it rather is interior the hot testomony.
