My knees are simply stiff and will only bend to a point before anymore will cause pain. Going farther is possible, but its tough. I want to make my knees flexible without straining them through large amounts of pressure, particularly in ways such as the traditional japanese style of sitting with the legs tucked under, which I can do, but through pain and stress. I'm under twenty so any tips you have should be helpful and managable.

Pilates is really good for increasing strength and flexibility. There was this one guy in my class with the same problem as you, except that he was around the age of 50. Anyways, despite his age and extreme inflexibilty, after 3 months of doing pilates just once a week, he was able to stretch and flex further than he ever could. Good luck!

Find a warm pool or hot tub. Doing stretching, even aerobics in water is easier on the joints, and can really enhance your range of motion
