They are fed crap by the media. Most of the time they are reporting about something bad that happened and the dog they are showing is not even a pit. It's disgusting. Don't believe the hype!

No. 1- Because if you've been close to pit bulls, you wouldn't WANT to ban them! No. 2- Because people are ignorant and believe what people tell them, and most can't tell the difference between a pit and any other bulldog. The media hypes things up to create a need so they can take credit for doing something about it later. Popularity has led to irresponsible owners who don't realize they have different needs and traits than most dogs. Being top choice of dog for criminals doesn't help either. But reason #1, there's always money to be made when they do it, because you have to register the ones already there.

I've owned two pit bulls and have a definite opinion. The breed has been abused and sadly inbred in some cases. The entire breed is not bad, but a significant portion is unstable and prone to violence.

Ask yourself which breed you'd leave your 1 year old playing with while you leave the room..a 2 year old male pit bull you just got from the humane society or a lab?

I personally have two small children and every time someone tells me to please stay back...their dog isn't friendly and might bite, I think to myself...first "What an idiot for having a dog out in public that might bite!" and then "Why can't something be done about it?"

IBecause they see pit bulls as dangerous dogs, helped by the media who loves nothing better to report pit bulls attacks with a variety of photographs to shock viewers/readers. ' Bad dogs' is a popular topic. German Sheppherds, Rotweilers and Dobermans went through it, still do occasionally.

The fear factor stems from the fact that Pit Bulls have powerful jaws, and clench their teeth better than any other breeed. And this has been used/abused by uncaring owners who trained their dogs to become vicious thus attack. Owners wishing to have their dogs attack praise them when they do as puppies, it becomes a habit!

In realitty Pit Bulls are no more dangerous than any other breed of dogs, if properly trained. They do need rigorous obedience training and are no dogs for the faint hearted. They really need to know their owner is top dog. Any attempt to overrule must be discouraged immediately.

I personally know of 2 Pit Bulls who are fabulous dogs! They are the most loving, sweet naturd dogs you could think of! They live very happy and peaceful lives and make their owner very proud. He started obedience training as soon as they had their shots, took them regulalry, then socialised them early. They are friendly with people, children and other pets.

I guess what i'm trying to say to you is that .... Where Pit Bulls are concerned, it is the fear factor, rought on by ignorance (Most people who hate Pit Bulls never owned one) and bad owners! If i had my way ... Following an attack (Although they are rare) I'd have the owner in jail, barred from ever owning any dog again, while the dog was helped with both dog trainer and behaviourist in the hope he can be saved!

A lot of pitbulls are wonderful dogs, but some owners train them to be ruthless. They also look a bit menacing and I think this is the reason many people don' like them.

They think that just because a few pitbulls have attacked, every pitbull is visouse. I have a 7th month old pitbull, and she is the best puppy I've seen.

fear and ignorance. Thats also one of the reasons so much hate and intolerance goes on. My good friend has a pitbull and it is one of the sweetest dogs I know. Always gentile and wants to just hang out and play. He has always been friendly to stangers. You have to condition any dog to be violent or dangerous.

Because people are scared of what they have heard. The reason why they bite are because of their owners not teaching them to be interactive towards others.
