You should figure that you will need to replace the engine soon. I would not buy that car unless you wanted a project, and you seem to be looking for transportation!

I wouldnt even try it. Most people dont notice a labor knock caused from pre-detonation. Usually, its the good old rod-knockin. The motor can be fixed for the do-it-yourselfer, but its not an easy job. As long as the motor runs, it hasnt damaged the block yet. If you're really wanting the car, have it towed to your house and start pullin the engine. Most shops wont rebuild an engine because of the labor that has to be put into it. They, they're responsible for the warranty, and you have the same price as what a new engine would have cost. If you can do the rebuild yourself, go for it, but if not, I wouldnt even thing about the car on that budget. Hope this helps.

Yes, it's a REALLY bad thing. You'll be looking at another $900 - $2000 for a replacement engine, and possibly a lot more. If you've only got $900 to play with, this is NOT the vehicle for you!

it could be. don't put yourself out on a limb not knowing what exzacly the knock is coming from. ask a professional auto tech at a near by garage if they would have a look at the car so you will have more detailed information. it maybe something simple or could cost you more than you can afford, a good tech I mean also honest may cost you ma be $20. to have them look and give their diagnosis so you don't buy something you wont be able to drive. need me I'm in Texas, Houston that is, beeghly1@yahoo.com

Knocking is never a good thing. However, it could be something as simple as the timing. Have a mechanic you trust lok at it before you buy it. If the current owner won't agree to let you have a mechanic look at it, take your money and run.

yes it is,,it means it has an internal problem,,probably because it has been ran low on oil,,or has a faulty engine part,,either way,,you need to look elsewhere, for a car,,for 900 bucks you an find something that don't knock,,or smoke,,or rattle,,just be patient,,if you get in a hurry ,,your going to get burned,,the car you find may not look the best,,but as long as it runs good,,and has no mechanical problem,s,,that would be better than buying one that knock,s,,,hope this help,s you.

it can be. could be a rod knocking. vehicle may need an engine replacement. don't buy till you have it checked out by a mechanic of your choice. if they will not let you do that then tell them to forget it as they are apparently hiding something. don't let them take advantage of you.

you may need to have the timing reset, and your air fuel ratio to your carb may be out of whack, a lot depends on the actual sound, you don't give a very good description of the sound, , if you describe what the sound is like i may be able to help you.(or your piston rings may need replaced
