You need to go to your doc and get a cotizone shot or a series of them. But next spring if you want to be really brave, I can tell you how to get unallergic to poison oak or ivy. You have to eat the buds of the branches. I know this sounds crazy, but it works. Find someone who is willing to pick them for you and put them in an empty capsule. You used to be able to get a form of this at drug store, but they took it off the shelf because a few had bad allergic reaction. You have to do this for about a week. Calamine lotion Scmalimine lotion, will be a thing of the past. Also are you aware that you can catch this stuff from your pets? It took me a few years to finally figure that one out. Also try to avoid burning it as this will probably kill you if you breath it in. Also I assume because you are talking about Sumac and Ivy , that you are back east. You could also go to a creek or stream and look for the sweet fern that grows there. Pick some and steep it like tea. Let cool and strain and put liquid in spray bottle in fridge. Apply several times for relief. If you have access to pepperwood or bay tree, do the same. This latter will burn but it will dry you out in no time. Yes I've lived on both coasts and have lots of experience with this itchy pain in the ar-se.

Take it from a person who suffered for three months last year doing herbal remedies for poison ivy to no avail. This year after teh second week, I went to the dr and got a steroid shot and three days later I was on the mend, drying up etc.
come to find out I was also allergic to the herbal remedy thus making it all so much worse.
I hate going to drs and taking medication, but this stuff really works and it is worth whatever you have to pay for it!
But make sure you get the shot!

There is this brand of Poisen Ivy soap they sell at wal-mart, and with it it a gel. That stuff works really well on poisen ivy, while the soap stops the spread. You need to stop itching it, and focus on keeping your sores clean (so they don't get infected), covered (so you don't itch them so much) and getting medicine on them. If it doesn't clear up in a couple of days, or keeps getting worse, or you get a fever, you need to go to a doctor. You could have an infection...

A product called Tecnu, available in camping stores and some pharmacies, is very effective at removing the oils, that you touched.
Scrub under the fingernails with a brush to prevent the resin from spreading to other parts of the body.
Wash clothing and shoes with soap and hot water. Resin can linger on them.
Body heat and sweating can aggravate the itching. Stay cool and apply cool compresses to your skin.
Calamine lotion and hydrocortisone cream can be applied to the skin to reduce itching and blistering. Bathing in lukewarm water with an oatmeal bath product, available in drugstores, may soothe itchy skin.
Aluminum acetate (Domeboro solution) soaks can also help to dry the rash and reduce itching.
Try taking Benadryl...........It works for itching, etc.
In severe cases, Go to your Doctor he/she may prescribe oral or injected steroids.
DO NOT touch skin or clothing that still have the resins.
Good Luck!

dude i feel you pain because I been there. Get some anti itching medication and once you are over it get injections to build up your immunity to it. i took 4 shots and only got it once more but it was a very small rash that never spread and went away the next day. Stay away from it to-dont weedeat in grown up weeds, and be careful with bark (like if you are cutting firewood) wear gloves. the nastiest time I got it it came from bark. Thoase injections really work and you will thank me later. i hope i have helped you. God Bless!

1) stop scratching. You are spreading it yourself. 2) go to the dr. A dr can prescribe a steroid that will combat the antihystimines that are causing the utacaria (itching and hives). If you aren't going to listen to that, try a benadryl (if you aren't allergic to it HAHAHAHAHA) topical rub. Be carefull not to od on the stuff though. Follow all manufacturer guidelines. The best thing you can do is go to the Dr though. Good Luck.

take prednisone, in a matter of days its gone. the only problem is a prolonged use could weaken the skin as if your skin is thinning. Take it together with ten fresh and pure calamansi juice every day dont mix water nor sugar, drink it pure everyday for twenty days, it can strengthen your immune system. dont take prednisone for more than a month but continue half dose of the calamansi juice. good luck it worked for me hopw it works for you.

I had the same problem about 2 months ago.....talk about being miserable. First off go to the doctor and get and shot, and they need to put you on prednisone (sp?). Then go to Wal-Mart and get some Aveno anit-itch cream, it worked wonders on me and helped dry it out alot faster than the cream my DR. prescribed me
