Right away everyone wants to medicate.

I'll give you my own answer based on my own experiences.
Counseling is number one. I tried medication and it didn't work for me. I found that support groups and friends did more for me than drugs. Don't keep your thoughts and feelings inside bottle up. Let it out. Talk. Good luck with this! It's going to get better!

Presumably you are taking prescribed Antidepressant therapy, if so they can take 4 to 6 weeks to take effect. These will alleviate the symptoms but not fix the cause. Once they are working properly, you will find that you should be more able to cope with getting to the root cause of your problem. Counselling sessions with a qualified person shoul be an integral part of your treatment.

Hope you return to good health soon.

Activity. Stay active in healthy and wholesome activities with good friends such as sports. Avoid things like: alchohol, tobaco, drugs, gambling, pornagraphy, immoral activities, and the many other things that are addicting. The worst thing that can happen to someone who is depressed is to get addicted to an unwholesome activity, because it will make them feel worse, or cause them to feel 'good' as opposed to happy, truly happy. Last of all, seek a counsellor if you can, and stay in touch with good friends, family, and loved ones. They will be your strongest support.

Good Luck, and don't give up.
