Yes. There are medicines not to cure but to ease the sufferings of people with AIDS. Unfortunately since Africa is in debt to Western countries like America it can not afford the treatment. the solution is to give Africa and other countries free medicine. But the governments won't. I think there should be action from the people all over the world to demand that every sufferer should be allowed free access to health care. We must also remember that this is not just a poor country disease. Many countries around the world have the disease. I must also point out that AIDS is not only contracted by rape and unsafe sex but also from bad blood transfusions. Rape is common every where and must be addressed by all. That goes for the Church, Governments and every day people. It is not a question of ignorant Africans, however, an ignorant World. Everyone is responcible. AIDS can only be prevented if it is talked about and that society will find a way to prevent and recognize and help those whom are affected by it.

ok I am going to DISAGREE with the above statement. (the married user id....not sean c.) We cannot blame Africans for AIDS and the spread of it. "It is transmitted primarily by exposure to contaminated body fluids, especially blood and semen." A direct quote from a search ran on facts about AIDS. Nowhere does it mention your accusations. To say we need to educate ignorant Africans about raping women...is not only ridiculous, but rude. What about Americans who rape women and spread it? Or have sex with random people and have it and do not tell the person as they are required to by law. Educate yourself before you mouth off.

For the question (sorry, got agitated)...it seems no matter how much knowledge is put out there, people will not listen. It is like telling a deaf person how to do something (not meant in a bad way, just an example of not being heard). The Ryan White story should have been something to teach people about aids, but it is a scary subject for some. We cannot stop aids, just like we cannot stop cancer, or certain STD's. They say they are working on a cure for it, but I am sure we are still a long way away from that. On the good side, some people live longer with aids then expected. It is like the plague....it won't stop. We can't stop it, we can only hope that people start listening more and stop stereotyping (see the above comment). Maybe the more we preach people will listen, but there will always be those people who fear what they don't know or understand, and that fear keeps them from seeing the truth. And please...show me WHERE in the link below it says "AIDS is spread by Africans raping women." Seriously, go read a book married person. This is a good question and I am glad to someone caring to ask. I had a cousin die of AIDS several years ago due to a bad blood transfusion.

We should never give up hope, never stop trying to find a cure for AIDS. In the meantime, preventive measures can be taken, and this process involves education. I think many different organizations are doing their utmost to educate people all over the globe on ways to prevent getting or giving AIDS. The one thing we must not do is get preachy about it and moralize about social evils, etc. The disease itself is evil enough.

1. Make research and development cheaper to pay for.

Money is the major problem here - the African nations are so poor they can't even feed their own people, bring in clean water or set up schools...so they surely can't afford the medication to help ease/slow down/stop AIDS.

2. EDUCATION of the masses:

This will always be the first line of defense against a dibilitating disease such as AIDS, and other infectious diseases. IF we could reach/teach the people (which we are trying to do now), we could slow the disease to a crawl.

There isn't any other form of defense that will fight this and other communicable diseases - we needs lots of money and education and the African government to realize that the money they receive from our own government and others involved in United Nations Monetary Aid is not to line their pockets and make them wealthy, but to help take care of their people.

There is far too much greed and graft in the world, that is the main reason the AIDS/HIV is not slowing down. If you can help in this - then please, step up to the plate and do something!

If not...just send your donations to the AIDS foundations that Bill and Melissa Gates send their money to as well as Warren Buffet who is giving up most of his billions to world causes such as Aids/HIV/ and Education of the Masses!

Its Arrogance, Ignorance, selfishness, greed, graft and hatrid that kills!

We can do a LOT by teaching these ignorant Africans that raping virgins will NOT cure AIDS. There have been 6 month old babies raped becuase these people think sex with a virgin will cure AIDS. Until we start educating a large scale, we will continue to see the AIDS epidemic grow.
Like the saying goes.....Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach him to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime. Stop giving these people fish, and teach them to make their own way!

We may, help stop it from spreading by not having sexual intercourse but since that is usually not bound to happen anothe rsolution is dont do the whole,"blood brothers.sisters." thing. But did you know that another place that has very high AIDS and HIV rates is California? The only place where there is near not as much HIV and AIDS is Australia!!

I did a report in college about AIDS in Africa. It is SO sad. Unfortunately there there are so many factors including lack of knowledge. Unless a cure is found the only way to end it is for everyone in the world to be in one monogomous relationship his/her life...pretty hard to do. I guess education is the best answer.

It's unrealistic to stop the dramatic increase in AIDS cases in Africa. Using condoms, being monogamous and abstinence, i think are a few things to consider to lessen the prevalence of AIDS.

Seriously. if we could get medication to the people (and food and other life supplies) they have no roads so we can get to them and identify who needs what

Generally, make sure everyone uses a condom during intercourse and don't reuse needles.
