Recently lost my best friend, 6 year old rottie to a stroke. I lost his sister to cancer 2 years ago. I know god never gives you more than you can handle, but sometimes life isn't fair. It's hard to say goodbye.

There's no good way to say goodbye to anyone (human or animal) that you love. It is going to be hard, and hurt for a while. But just always remember the good times you had together, and how happy you were. Thoe happy memories can help ease the suffering you feel from the loss. Sorry your pup died :(

It is never easy. I recently (April) went thru it, and have another dog, older who also has cancer, so I know it's just a matter of time. The only thing that helped me was to feel the loss, not try to hide it-and yes, every day is just a little bit better. Never great, but the intense feelings of sadness and loss do diminish little by little. I still occasionally cry, but am now working on a photo album of her. Something I never could have done 1 month ago. I am very sorry for your loss- Give yourself time to heal. God Bless

I know how you feel. I have a ferret, and he's the absolute cutest most adorable pet I've ever owned and I've owned a lot, and I always think, I don't know what I would do with out him. Of course losing a pet, is nothing like losing a child or anything, but pets are a whole different level. I don't think theres any good way of saying goodbye. I think that goes with anything though. Goodbyes suck.

My bestfriend who is 28 had her cat when she was 9 years old, and she's got pictures of him in doll clothes, in a baby bassinette and she loved that cat more than life. He was her buddy. Her husband ran him over on accident. He backed up on him, with his SUV, and he didn't know how to go into the house and tell his wife (my bestfriend ) that he had just ran him over. My bestfriend was tore up...for months...and months... She cries when it snows on him out in the backyard and everything. Nothing will make it easier, except time, unfortunately.

Saying goodbye is not easy. I lost a pet years ago and still to this day I will tear up or cry when I see her pic or grave. YES!! I had a funeral for her and she even had her own casket. She was my baby, a little black and white Boston Terrier. She was special. She was deaf and blind in one eye and I bought her that way. I had to have her we just bonded. Anyway, she was my best friend and I will always miss her. Time heals all things. And you know what else?? God never shuts one door without opening another.

There's no easy way to get past the loss of a good pet. I've lost 2 dogs in the last 2 years. I still think of the fun we had and the personality each one had. I sure do miss them.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had 3 senior Rottweilers , my husband and I had for years, all passed away within the same year. Mother, father and son. They were like our children, it was heartbreaking. Our 16 year old male died the same day as Dale Earnhardt (my husband's hero). I promise you the pain will pass and become wonderful memories. I know not everyone recommends this, but we have always adopted a puppy after losing one of our other kids. It helps bring happiness in the house again, and gives a beautiful distraction to ease the pain. Good luck to you and I hope your pain soon eases.

Unfortunately, when you love your pet, there is no easy way to say goodbye. I still remember laying down my 12 year old cat; I took him to the vet, and I was allowed to stroke his fur and talk to him as the medication was injected into him. It broke my heart to see him lying there, gone. It's been 4 years, and I still think of him from time to time. I look forward to seeing him again.

Owning pets means you will need to say goodbye to them. Due to their shorter lifespan, even if they live long lives we should outlive our pets. Allow yourself to grieve your pets, and understand that the pain will be less every day. Soon you will be able to think about your dog and smile rather than cry. Check out this poem, it made me feel better when my pet died. http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/rainbowb.htm
