A friend of mine has a CDR 80 min CD. On it he has over 128 songs burned on it from his computer. When I asked him he said something about converting my Mp3's to data format. Does any one know what I am talking about, and what type of soft ware do I need?

Data disk would be leaving the mp3 files in mp3 form and not changing them to cda form. These CDs can be used to back up your MP3 collection or to be used in CD players that allow MP3 format (This allows for more songs than a regular Music CD). Making an MP3 Data disc is easy. First, put in a blank CD in to your drive. Then, take the MP3s that you want and copy them to the CD drive window ( Under My Computer and double-clicking on the CD drive) and then click the 'Write These Files to CD' link on the left hand side under CD Writing Tasks. Follow the Directions and it should prompt you whether or not you want to make a Music CD or a Data CD. This is an inexpensive way to make MP3 Data CDs, so you don't have to go spend money on Nero or other pricey software.

If he has over 128 songs on a regular 80 min CD, they are probably already in MP3 format. If not, you can use iTunes. Go to your iTunes menu > Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing > change import using to MP3 encoder. Then, put in your CD and it will appear in your left hand menu. Click on its icon and click on the Import button in the top right corner of the screen.

You can also use programs like Nero to turn a music CD into MP3 data files.

Just about any software you use to burn CD's will ask if you want to burn a music CD or a Data CD. If you choose Data CD, it will keep them in their original format, you will be able to fit many more onto the CD and you won't have to finalize the CD when you're done.
