I have hypothyroidism, and we are going through very hard times financially. I cannot afford to get my medicine, and I have been to the local free health clinic, but I don't qualify to receive help there. Does anyone know the side effects of not taking your medicine for an extended period of time? Any ideas on how I can get my medicine? I haven't taken it now for about 2 months. Thanks for any help.

Thank you so much to those of you who answered. I found a web site that you might be interested in, too. I'm applying to get help with my meds. Thanks again.

First off, you can get a goiter and not feel very good from not taking meds. Tell your doctor that you cannot afford meds, the drug reps give doctors samples, they can pass them on to you. There is a drug program called Indigent, where drug makers will give doctors meds for patients who cannot afford them, your doctors office would get the meds for each 30 day increment and give to you. http://www.edhayes.com/indigent.html one of these companies will have a thyroid med that you can take.

I have hypothyroidism, and the side effects may include being tired, feeling weak, increaded weight gain or difficulty losing weight, course or dry hair, or sometimes even pale or rough dry skin. There are also cases of hair loss or cold intolerance. muscle cramps, frequent muscle aches. Depression contipation, irritability. And even memory loss, abnormal menstrual cycles. Though you have to keep in midn that this varies from person to person. About the medicine. Is there anyone close to you that can help you get money for it? I wish I knew of some way to help. Keep strong. Try praying ( I know it might sound..like something that is said easier then done, But sometimes God works in mysterious ways) Dont give up or lose hope. Ill pray for you too.

I was diagnosed as hypothyroid by my doctor about 2 1/2 years ago. No matter how we tweaked the Levothyroxin, I continued to experience bloating, painful trapped gas, post-nasal drip and congestion, which I had been experiencing all my life (I am 49 years old) and extreme fatigue which had been on-going for a few years. I didn't seem to be able to get enough sleep, couldn't make it through a day at the office and only wanted to sleep all the time. Starting the diet in early November brought about immediate positive results. ALL the above-mentioned symptoms literally disappeared!! I was so excited I would wake up early each morning, ready to meet the day. THANK YOU for all you've introduced me to, https://vids.im/Low-Thyroid-TreatmentsiJd . I thank God for your research...

You can get synthroid for about 15 bucks for a months supply but if you can't do that, avoid eating cabbage, broccoli, turnips, rutabaga, mustard greens, kale, spinach, Brussels sprouts, peaches, pears, strawberries, and radishes cauliflower, millet, and African cassava. These foods reduce the natural thyroid production and worsen your symptoms. Also avoid fast foods and soy.

Well the most obvious problems are that the bodies metabolic functions are going to slow down. The most obvious problem is the onset of myxedema coma, which might leave you hypothermic and in kidney failure.
