It could be triggered by stress. Maybe you are clenching the muscle without realizing it.

it could possibly be arthritis, bursitis or some type of inflamation causing it. You can look at the site below and see if it sounds like your problem. You could try a pain reliever rub or over the counter arthritis medicine. But you should probably have it checked anyway. A doctor knows what to feel for when checking it out. Good luck

Pain or discomfort is always a red flag. Seeking professional medical advice is the best option. Possibly a physiotherapist, who is also certified in Pilate's, could give you a postural analysis, & some corrective exercises that would be helpful.

Try a massage. They can also tell you if you have tension in other problem areas, like your neck. If they don't notice anything, then perhaps a doctor could help you out, but it sounds like tightness. I get that alot, and before I started getting massages, it would sometimes affect my back from the severity of it from my neck and shoulders. Trust me, you don't want that.

I would only see doc if pain is ongoing and bad enough to make you cry. I get pain too. Try stretching that area often. And massages are great. . . .

It's probably because you overused doing something that you don't usually do. I wouldn't worry about it if it is only once every 3-4 months.

it sounds as if somehow you are straining your trapezium muscle, is there anything you do right before it starts hurting that you can think of...i don't think it's serious you just need to figure out what you are doing in order to prevent it...hope this helps
