Go officer...ALWAYS!! Better money, better duty assignments, better benefits in general.

NEVER ENLIST!! If you can help it.

That's question only you can answer. I'll tell you that you'll work more as an officer, but people also might give a crap what you have to say. At one point I heard they were making everyone go through boot, to include officers, but I'm not sure if that ever transpired.

If you want to join the marine corps, then that's what you should do. don't listen to people who tell you to apply for everything. being in the army and being in the marine corps are really different. I would suggest that you at least look into the other branches. You have at least two years to think this one over, and I guarantee you there's a bunch of stuff that hasn't crossed your mind.

I almost forgot, just because you get accepted to a NROTC program doesn't mean you have to do it. And just because you complete NROTC doesn't mean you have to accept a marine corps option. If you want to be an officer, I suggest you apply to the Naval academy. It'll be a har four years, but it'll prepare you better than any other place can to be a navy or marine corps officer. But just remember: just because you apply to something doesn't mean you have to do it, even if you get accepted.

You have to do what's best for you. I served in the Army for 4 and a half years making my way up to SGT. I applied for a green to gold scholarship and got it. Now that I'm in ROTC I can definitely say that I'm glad I went enlisted first. I picked alot of experience as an enlisted man. Yet, at the same time I'm going to be behind my peers when I do get commisioned. There's good things about having prior service as well as bad things. I guess for me it's the idea of having to start all over again. With some hind sight though if I would have gone to college first then I would be an officer right now and by the time I graduate I could have been a Captain. It's all about what you want. It's easy to take orders and be told what to do. It another thing entirely to give the orders with peoples lives at stake. Think out it this way, would you be able to send your best friend on a mission that you know that he's probably not going to come back from because you know that others lives are at stake...those are the decisions you will have to make as an officer. Or would you rather go alongside your best friend on that mission that you know in your gut in nothing but bad news.....It's up to you....fortunately you've got time to think about it...so take your time and you'll do just fine.

Decide what kind of life you want to live and what job you want to do. The marines dont offer that they give you your assignment based on your score.Since the Corps is so small you have no say so. The Army is much larger with more funding and you get to choose your assignment ,place of duty, and even get bonus not to mention college money as well. Assuming you score good as well if slots are available. then theres the navy they treat you much better than the army and have a few more jobs there that help you out in the civilian world, then cream of the crop i my opinio Air Force pretty much civilians. If you go to college to be an officer you dont have as many options as to what career field you want but then again they pay you extra for a reason mainly because your going to be paying off you school loans and what not for a couple of years. Thats any branch. As enlisted you get bigger selection for job opportunities but you dont get paid no where near as oficers. Theres alway warrant officers that the in between section of officers and enlisted. Ask for as much info from your recruiters from all branches to decide what you want. Im telling you from experience if you do infantry your body will wear out quick especially if you go airborne. In my opinion get a job that there is a high demand in the civilian world. Im in here due to lack of options. so i chose the one that suits my mindset. Im not infantry just attached to them for about 6yrs. And i go everywhere they go.

Wait so you can go in as an officer. Take it from one that was on the enlisted side. Things are much better as an officer, in many different aspects. You get paid a lot more. The housing is nicer. If you decide to get out, you have an education to help you find a job. The list could go on and on...

Thank you for your commitment to this country and the Corps. Talk to your parents and your recruiter. The Corps needs soldiers and leaders. They need leaders more, just like all businesses. I am certain that the Marines would rather have a dedicated officer than another foot soldier. Either way, you serve the Corps and your country.

Depends on the MOS you get & your temperment. I'm not athletic, had an MOS in MI. If I went to OCS I most likely would have gone into a combat MOS. The better one is in combat skills the more likely one can graduate out of that field. Top 10% are offered choices back then.

Temperment do you like doing or do you enjoy paper pushing?

joining the US armed forces is a fine choice. may I suggest the Coast Guard? The reason for this is I spent 5 years in the Army and learned a good job
but with 20/20 hindsight I feel I could have done better. I am 50,retired and wish the very best for you. God bless.

It really depends on what "you" want to do. Yes if what you are after is the pay and benefits, go officer, but remember you are going to have to pay for college yourself and then go to OCS.

Going enlisted opens up a wide range of options. Currently the Corps has 100% tutition assistance, so you can take classes while on active duty.

So really its up to you. Just do me one favor, if you go officer, don't go in with the attitude that enlisted are punks and worthless.

Without question, go to COLLEGE!!! If you are still of a mind set to join the corps, or any branch for that matter, you will at least enter as an officer.

I AM PROUD OF HOW YOU ARE TALKING ,,MAY GOD BLESS YOU.. FIRST THING YOU WANT TO DO IS TO STUDY HARD IN HIGH SCHOOL GET GOOD GRADES, WORK HARD IN ROTC. ADVANCE IN RANK EVERY TIME YOU CAN , BECAUSE YOU WILL HAVE EARNED IT. GO INTO BOOT CAMP , YOUR ROTC WILL HELP A LOT THERE. FINSH BOOT, AND ALL TRAINING , THEN IF YOU SHOW LEADERSHIP ABILITY, IT WILL BE NOTED IN YOUR FILE, THEN APPLY FOR OCS,
MY FRIEND LET ME TELL YOU WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IS GREAT, BUT REMEMBER THIS IS NOT A WALK IN THE PARK, YOU WILL EARN EVERY BIT OF IT....
WHERE THIS STARTS IS WHERE YOU ARE RIGHT NOW, CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS CAREFULLY, STAY OUT OF TROUBLE , KEEP YOUR HEAD AND HEART STRAIGHT.
AND ABOVE ALL IS EDUCATION,EDUCATION,EDUCATION..
MAY GOD BLESS
