The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was the peace treaty that ended the Mexican-American War (1846–1848). The treaty provided for the Mexican Cession, in which Mexico ceded 1.36 million km² (525,000 square miles) to the United States in exchange for USD$15 million. The United States also agreed to take over $3.25 million in debts Mexico owed to American citizens.

The cession included parts of the modern-day U.S. states of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Wyoming, as well as the whole of California, Nevada, and Utah. The remaining parts of what are today the states of Arizona and New Mexico were later ceded under the 1853 Gadsden Purchase.

Every square inch of the world's land was stolen from someone, except for antartica. Mexico had the southwest before us. Before Mexico had it someone else had it.

Get over it, and stop trashing the United States. The Mexicans like the areas we took from Mexico better than they like the areas we didn't take.

That is not all. Texas once belonged to Mexico, but Stephen F Austin (his dad Moses actually) made a deal with Mexico that they could colonize parts of Texas. In exchange, they would have to all be Roman Catholic. Sure, the powers that be in Mexico were told, unaware that the settlers metaphorically had their fingers crossed.

But then again, Mexico was "using" them as a buffer (think bear bait) against the aboriginal people of this continent, who had given the Spanish speaking setters quite a bit of grief and hassle.

If I had to vote, I would say that the genocide northern Europeans conducted on the native peoples, along with the grotesque enslavement of the dignified people of the Mother Continent (Africa) are far more heinous activities than an agreed-upon settlement of a war.

This business of being human can get messy at times.

What's your point? If Americans had not violated the US borders set by the Louisiana Purchase , settling in Mexico there would have been no war! They then decided to Annex Mexican land!! That led to the very unpopular war started by Pres. Polk to kick Mexicans off their own land! Because the Peace treaty came after a war over something that didn't even belong to us, did not give us the right to take their land!! Or even settle it! We had no right to be there in the first place!!

Isn't that what all you people are railing against? I suspect that Mexico didn't like illegals from America very much back then either!!

The Treaty does not show that any of the land was stolen from Mexico. The land was taken as a result of the Mexican American War. The U.S even agreed to pay of debts made by Mexico to American citizens which was completely unnecessary. In fact Mexico should of just given us the land so we wouldn't have to shoot them. If Mexico wants it back, then I say bring it.

NOOOOOOOO A1....I don't listen to peoples conversations BUT my girls were on their black's and I was bored. ANYWAY......I heard that people who use "indian stuff or America was ours stuff" really are skirting the issue. I don't think stuff that happened like 200 million years ago should be what everyone is getting SO mad about now......you rock A1.

You ask the BEST questions EVER! A1....do you eat carbs.....because if you do....I can send this great book to you....telling you how you will DIE....if you do.

Yes we did. If John steals money from Susan and I steal the money from John, I am a criminal. The same can apply to Mexican-American. We have always been stealing, first from Native American, who helped us and we betray them. Later from Mexico. Now we try to take part in Middle-East.

Sovereign powers can't really "steal" anything since they win or lose territory de jure and de facto under international norms, treaties, and law.

That means that the US is the rightful owner of the territories it has.

Read your history books. Read how/why the war was started. The U.$. had been coveting the land for years.
