well, before the reinstall i had sound working and i'd just plug in head phones(in the back of my computer) and listen, but now after the reinstall, the sound doesn't work. Now its been a while since the reinstall and i have been trying to find out the problem, so its not as simple as restarting my computer.

it seems that you forgot to install the sound driver (it came with the motherboard cd) but if you want the latest driver for your soundcard (it doesnt matter if it was an onboard soundcard or pci soundcard), you should check the manufacture website.
for example if you're using a NForce based series chipset on your motherboard, then you should visit http://www.nvidia.com to get the latest driver for your motherboard and soundcard (because NForce based chipset use an onboard soundcard)
but if you're using a pci soundcard like Creative Audigy series, etc then you should visit http://www.soundblaster.com (if you were using a Creative Soundcard series)
and to install the driver just run it like you were installing other programs on your computer (i assume that you havent installed any other soundcard drivers yet) but if you already install other soundcard drivers you should uninstall them first before installing the new one
hope this'll help

i do the same thing like 3 months ago in some computers you just have to turn your computer off and on wen u turn it on immediately press f10 in the keyboard and a recovery program is going to appear just pres next and all is going to recover after you do that press restart and then all is going to be the same u have to wait and a window is going to say that the program is not supported if u want to install anyway just press yes and the sound is gonna be working again . if that don't work just buy a new sound card

Install the drivers from the disks that came with your computer. One should say "hardware drivrs" or something sound. Ex soundblaster or creative sound. If its a dell, maybe Santa Cruz turtle beach.

I'm not good with computers either. I asked my boyfriend who knows a little something, something. LOL! He said you need restall your sound card. He said then you should be fine. He said for you go to the website that owns the product, then go the part where it says DOWNLOADS, then download the driver.

first make sure all the cables are plugged in properly, make sure you're not set on mute, do a startup diagnostic and see if it finds anything, check to see if you have a disc for driver installation and try it

the sound on my laptop breaks all the freaking time...I go into the start menu>control panel>performance and maintenance>system>device manager>hardware, and then I right-click to uninstall my sound (the one a yellow exclamation point is the one that's not working), after it's uninstalled, I right-click on the sound, audio, controllers heading to click for changes...it should find your device that you uninstalled, reinstalling it, and voila, sound!

Well, did you have SPEAKERS? Are they plugged in right? Either way, use a hammer. That'll do the job. Hit the tower hard a few times.
