Oh Labs definitely. They are gentle, and love their families.

Pit bulls. Hands down.

And for those of you who think no labs bite, here's a website of all reported dog attacks (pretty much anything that makes the news at all). Few of those are pits, more of them labs, and tons of other breeds. http://www.chako.org/dogblog/forums/8/ShowForum.aspx

Why? Because it IS the media. I have done years of research on the pit bull breed, and of all the published studies on unprovoked aggression, bite strength, and the history and standard of the breed. The media did the same thing to the Doberman, then the German Shepherd, then the Rottweiler. Now it's the pit bull because this is the fad dog now. The aforementioned dogs have not become nicer or attacked less often. They just don't have the same pizzaz.

The best answer to this question is not the breed of dog, but who "owns" it.

Both san be great dogs I have a pit, he loves kids cats and other dogs. If you get a pit you need to know it is a lot of work to traim them. They have to know you are the boss. Labs are good dogs too. Same as the pits they need a lot of training. I know people say that pits should not be around kids. Only pit I have seen that would try to harm anyone was one badly abused to make him tough for the fighting. There are 1000's that live with families all over the US.

Love labs and goldens but I would not have a pit bull under any condition....no matter who the breeder is. It isn't just the media, it is the tempermant of the dogs. Labs and goldens are almost always loveable and good dogs. They usually grow up to be mellow and most people are very comfortable around them even though they are large. They also have had good press too. You don't hear of labs attacking anyone.

I love ALL dogs, but will never again trust a pit bull. I have had two female Labradors, and they were wonderful. I had one pit bull, he was not.

I'll take the pit bulls... From what I've seen of labs ...Waaaay to hyper for me.. besides pits are nothing but big lap dogs! had a pihuahua terrier before (Pit bull/Chihuahua) Cutest thing you'd ever see! and the friendliest, smartest dog i've ever owned.

Labs are people dogs and not protective. A Pit Bull means liability issues. They are very over protective of their owners.

Okay I am a nice bull mastiff and sharpei mix.... let me tell you that I have a few friends who are Labs and they are the nicest guys and always happy to sniff butts and visit.... now Pit Bulls are abit moody and sometimes they wanna visit and sniff butts but then bammmmm... they are ticked off with ya and snarl at you. And you say "hey buddy, what did I do to you?" and they bite you butt instead of saying hello.... go figure.
