I have sporiasis on my elbows and knees. It friggin sucks. No real cure. Ultra Violet Rays do the trick pretty good though you can't really be in the sun all day. try a tanning bed or ask your Dr for UV theropy. You'll find it's worse in winter or colder weather than in the summer. Unless your in a warm climate all year round. Salt water is great for skin as well. Try epsum salts in your bath if anything it will releave the dryness and itching.

RE:
What is the best way to treat or get rid of exzema?
My hands itch so bad sometimes it wakes me up at night. I have tried many creams prescribed by the dermatologist, but nothing seems to help long term. It used to be on both hands and now it is only on my right hand. It is ugly and embarrassing.

I'm sorry to be the barer of bad news, but it's my understanding that once eczema is contracted, the best one can hope for (for now anyway) is effective management.
"There is currently no cure for eczema though research continues to shed new light on the condition. However, there are many ways to minimize the discomfort and distress which eczema can bring, the foundation of which is an effective skin care routine. ..."
This is a quote from The National Eczema Society, if you'd like to read other facts regarding eczema, here is the link to their FAQ:
http://www.eczema.org/faqfile.htm
More specifically if you're only concerned about treatment options here is the link to The National Eczema Society's basics (so to speak) for managing eczema:
http://www.eczema.org/faqfile.htm#how
There's loads of information available regarding eczema, and other related and non-related skin conditions, on the Internet. I recommend you stick to sites that use licensed medical professionals, and even then you should consult a physician before beginning any treatment.

I was prescribed a steroid cream by my doctor called Clobetasol Propionate. It really seems to help when I use it faithfully, but if I stop for a few days the breakouts return. It is very frustrating. I've got it on both hands and a few breakouts on my legs and feet. Figure out what your triggers are and try to avoid them. For me it's being in the water, stress, and some outdoor allergies. Stress is a big factor also!! Try to reduce your exposure to your triggers and hopefully you'll find fewer breakouts!

After having children, I washed my hands furiously and about every 5 minutes, it caused them to dry out and turned into exzema. I tried lotion after lotion, and everything else I thought would help. My wife had received a lotion gift basket, and what actually healed my hands was Neutrogena foot cream, it's really thick and heavy, and helps keeps your hands from cracking as well. Besides it couldn't be any worse than any other suggestions ;-)

Well you can try putting a bag of ice on it when you sleep and it should keep it ok for a little while but if that doesnt work go to a different dermatologists and maybe they can help get a more powerful medicine.

You can't get rid of it, you have to use hypoallergenic lotions to moisturize and there may be a anti-inflammatory cream you can use for the itching. I have psoriasis on my hands and feet, I have to use a UV box and steroid creams.

I had eczema since I was a baby. It's all over my body. You shouldn't be embarressed. Think about me. No cream really works. You might want to keep it cool. That helps for me. A lot of people say you can grow out of eczema.

Ok, I know that this will sound absolutely vile, but it really does work (my dermatologist recommended it). Slather the problem area with Crisco. I suggest that you do this at night since Crisco smells and it is on your hands.
