My dog had some obedience training and this was the one trait that lingered.. he is a black lab.. I think it is planted so well in their brains through heredity to naturally be a leader in a sense...
I think my dog wanted to be ahead of me in an effort to protect me from the dangers that may or may not have been ahead.. that, and he was just excited..
I found a retractable leash with one of those special "leader" harnesses that go around the muzzle was best for this.. it is much better for the dog than regular neck collars that would tend to cut off air supply when they get the urge to pull too hard.. I would never consider invisible fences or choker chains.. I think of both of tham as forms of animal abuse. Ever put your thumbs on the prongs and walk past the invisible line? OUCH! why would people do this to their pets? Ignorance.
The change in collars was great, and I brought him to the town lake/park on weekends.. took him him down a mostly deserted trail in the woods and let him run loose for a couple hours while I read a book or the newspaper.. giving the dog the opportunity to explore in a safe environment worked great... and he was a natural rabbit terrorizing hunter and squirrel chaser.. :) was good for weight control and a happy disposition.. perfect pup in my eyes... :)
Good Luck. Hope this helps.. :)

so that you want to entice close the thanks to get our canines to end pulling on the leash once you stroll him? There are distinct options, consisting of using a 'choker' collar. they don't look to be equipped to spoil the animal, yet extra to startle him. at the same time as he starts pulling, end walking and he receives stopped through the leash. Telling him no because the rope receives tight will tell his mind to end pulling. If this does no longer artwork, you could also do an same component, yet make a 'chch' sound and gently (yet in a way that exhibits you recommend employer) nudge him ob his shoulder once you end. dogs are delicate to the noise an the poke. And as for the neutering, it really is more advantageous to get him neutered; his urine gained't have as undesirable an smell, and he will be a extra comfortable canines. wish this allows!

Mainly, because they haven't been taught how NOT to and they are doing what comes natural. Their world is full of stimulating things that do little for us as humans, because of their awesome sense of smell and hearing. Taking a dog for a walk before he/she is properly leash trained for them is kind of like spinning the dial on a stereo receiver.....all kinds of signals coming in all at once acting as stimuli on your dog and heshe has the urge to investigate and experience each one NOW. Once he/she gets a little training "under his/her collar" and figures out pleasing YOU gets praise, treats, etc. things should settle down for the most part and the walk should slowly become more pleasureable for both of you.

My dog only pulls at first, I'm pretty sure he wants to get going and smell things, and mark his territory. If it is a bad problem, like he pulls you down or escapes you, you might want to invest in dog training.

Its a dogs instinct to run .The dogs were once wild animals that had to compete for food .They run to find a scent to follow and hunt .

Your dog needs to be trained. Teach it to "heel". You have to practice on the leash every day until they get it. Rewards, like doggie bone treats, and praise always helped mine to be eager to please me and to obey me. It's just a training thing. It takes time but worth the effort. A well behaved dog is welcome everywhere.
