I read that alcohol affects every cell in your body, is this true? I know it effects liver and brain but what else does alcohol do to your body? Does it raise blood pressure, raise temperature, etc.

Well alcohol travels through the blood stream so technically it can effect every cell, although im not sure it would. Either way it is a depressent so it slows your reaction and your heart rate. It also dehydrates you, thats what happens when you have a hangover. Prolonged alcohol use will destroy your liver which is the organ that detoxs the blood of alcohol. Besides that.....well it could give you frost bite quicker. Most of the really harmful effects of alcohol are long term. Although im sure someone will try and despute that.

Alcohol depresses your body. However, the primary affect of alcohol is that "alcohol acts primarily on the nerve cells within the brain. Alcohol interferes with communication between nerve cells and all other cells, suppressing the activities of excitatory nerve pathways and increasing the activities of inhibitory nerve pathways."

As the brain controls every other function of the body, the fact that alcohol affects communication between nerve cells and other cells means that the entire body is affected by alcohol. So in a manner of speaking, it's true that alcohol affects your entire body. The following site has good information on how alcohol affects all the systems of your body:

Alcohol has a biphasic effect on the body, which is to say that its effects change over time. Initially, alcohol generally produces feelings of relaxation and cheerfulness, but further consumption can lead to blurred vision and coordination problems. Cell membranes are highly permeable to alcohol, so once alcohol is in the bloodstream it can diffuse into nearly every tissue of the body. After excessive drinking, unconsciousness can occur and extreme levels of consumption can lead to alcohol poisoning and death

It does damage it. If it was doing to your face what it is doing to your liver you'd never have another drink.
