Jesus did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill he said so His self in Mt 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Mt 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Mt 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Then gave an example that you sin with your mind as wellMt 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
Mt 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
My dear friend the 4th commandment is the TEST commandment to see if people will obey God.Ex 31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

The commandments were not "done away with" at the cross. We are still to very much keep the commandments. When the Pharisees ask Jesus what was the greatest commandment, He summed it up this way.
"The first commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart mind and soul. The second is like unto it, love thy neighbor as thyself, in these two is the entire law."
Notice Jesus did not through out do away with the original commandments.

The commandments were not done away with. Only the law of which Jews had to follow strictly for SALVATION was removed..the blood sacrifices to atone for sins...
If you read in Matthew (New Testament), the 10 Commandments are still there, repeated by Jesus Himself.
Do not be deceived...almost all of the things of the OT do carry over to the NT.

The commandments weren't done away with.
Jesus's point was.............If you honor and fulfill the 1st and 2nd commandments....there is no need for the other 8. If you were to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind and your neighbor as yourself, you won't break the rest of the commandments. If we are involved in breaking the other 8, then we aren't keeping the 1st and 2nd commandments.

All the commandments are in effect including the 4th commandment which says to keep the Sabbath, seventh day (Saturday) holy. People never have a problem with the commandments until they come to the Sabbath.

The commandments were not done away with at the cross. The Commandments were given by Moses to the nation of Israel. Nine of the ten commandments were repeated to the church in the New Testament but the Sabath command was not one of them.

The commandments were not done away with at the cross and I don't know where you got that idea. Jesus did give us 2 new commandments.....Love your God with your whole heart and Love your neighbor as yourself. These 2 commandments do encompass all ten of the commandments given to us by God through Moses. If you Love God, you will not use His name in vain, will not worship false gods, will keep the sabbath holy, etc. and by Loving our neighbor, we will not steal from our brother (neighbor) nor covet his goods or his wife, not commit adultry, etc so you can see them the 2 commandments Jesus gave us did not do away with the original 10 commandments, they are all encompased in the two that Jesus gave us and contrary to an answer I saw posted, they are definitely necessary for salvation because by breaking any of the commandments, we are putting our soul and salvation at risk of loss by separating ourselves from God's life and grace within us. We must love Him and keep His commandments and remain in His grace to merit salvation. Just because Jesus died on the cross for us, does not mean we will be saved regardless of what sins we commit. If we sin against God, we can lose our opportunity to be with God in heaven unless we repent and change our ways and avoid sin in the future.

Who said the commandments were done away with at the cross? Our sins were wiped away with, but not the commandments.
The commandments are false. They are human constructs designed by the early church leaders to control the masses through fear-based living.
God does not judge or punish us. God is all-loving and we will all return to be home with God when our physical incarnations end.

The 10 commandments weren't done away with like indiebaptist explained, they truly are just common courtesy issues if you really think about it. Courtesy to God and to each other. As for keeping the Sabbath holy, I wonder about that one too. We are such a 24/7 society, with kids ball games falling during church times, places of business staying open. Funny tho, many of the folks who say "OH NO, I cannot life a finger on Sunday sure don't mind going out to eat for lunch! Jesus never said we should shirk our duties on Sunday. Maybe it is just to focus even more on Him on the Sabbath. A personal time we "physically" set aside for just the worship of God.

Sister, just as Jesus life was a fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, the "Golden Rule" is a fulfillment of the 10 Commandments.
When Jesus said "Love thy neighbor as thyself", he was explaining the reason behind the commandments -- so that we would live by the spirit of the commandments, instead of nit-picking specific rules.
As an example "Thou shalt not kill" is a commandment. Now, people have argued that it's okay to end someone's life in certain circumstances -- like wars, or disease, or old age, or just because having a baby would be inconvenient. With Jesus' rule, all their petty arguments become irrelevant.
"Love thy neighbor as thyself" -- explains and expands "Thou shalt not kill" in a way that we can all understand (even if we find it inconvenient that it's a lot harder to argue with)!
If you "Love your neighbor as yourself" is it okay to kill him in a war? Because he's inconvenient, or sick, or old or forgets who you are (and he is)? Of course not! Only God has the right to decide when his gift of life should end!
The commandments only covered specific sins. Jesus' Golden Rule is all-encompassing as a way to interact with God and each other.

They weren't done away with.
GOD gave us the Ten Commandment's so we would know how to OPERATE the Spiritual Invisible LAW's that Govern the EARTH so we could get BLESSED.
The Ten Commandment's won't make you HOLY by obeying them, it will just make you BLESSED.
Some people call it Karma, but it is "you reap what you sow".
