No way, Jose!

And by the way, not all other insurance is optional! If you buy a house and finance it with a mortgage, the lender will require you to insure it. If you open a business, the city or county will require you to get public liability and workers comp insurance. If you go to college you'll be required to provide proof of health insurance or purchase it from the school's selected insurance provider.

Actaully, auto liability insurance is NOT mandatory. Proof of financial responsibility IS. The most common way to do that is with insurance. You could also post a bond with the state or deposit sufficient securities with the state to cover the minimum liability requirements.

If you get stupid and run into me, you'll be VERY thankful that you have insurance. Because if you don't, I will make your life a LIVING HELL. I'll sue you for everything you have, including future wages and those of your children if need be. I'll make sure that you lose your license and tags until the damages are paid. If you're a typical working stiff, that will probably leave you walking for the rest of your life.

I won't have to lift a finger to do any of this for one simple reason. I have high limit Uninsured Motorist coverage. My insurance company will cover my losses and then go after you with a vengance. They're like a bunch of rabid junk-yard dogs when it comes to things like that! One of the reasons that I do business with them.

NO WAY. So many people cause injury, death, property damage and are completely reckless. If we didn't have it required the court system would be completely bogged down with so many lawsuits it would be impossible. So many lawsuits are filed as it is even when there is insurance involved. Can you imagine what would happen if no one had it? And think about what would you do if someone drunk hit your family and you broke a leg and you were out of work for 3 weeks, or if your child was scarred across the face at age 3 due to someone not paying attention and hits your vehicle. Wouldn't you want to have them pay for the treatment? and the effect that it would cause your family for weeks, months, years?

NO WAY ! Virginia has the option for you to not carry liability insurance but, you have to pay the ( current ) $600 Uninsured Motorist fee ANNUALLY. If you can afford to pay that fee, you can afford to pay for insurance. If your insurance rates are WAY higher than that, ( and I understand that when youre under 25 yrs old, youre rates are high anyways but, for the scope of this topic, thats not what I'm talking about ), then its possibly due to the fact that your driving record stinks and you shouldn't be driving anyway.

If youre adult enough to drive and have your own vehicle, then youre adult enough to have insurance too. Don't want to have "full coverage" insurance ? No problem ( as long as your vehicle is paid for ) but, I feel that you shouldn't even be able to have a DRIVER'S LICENSE without carrying liability insurance to protect ME and MY vehicle from your negligence. I have insurance to protect you and yours and, if I ran into you, you wouldn't want it any other way.

In some states it is. (I believe that is if you don't owe a car note)

However, would you want to be responsible for hitting and killing someone without insurance? A 20-year-old man hit my grandparents head on 21 years ago. He wasn't planning to kill anyone that day. Three cars were involved in the accident. None of them had enough insurance on the cars.

Why it would be mandatory to have insurance if you still owe on the car...well, I'm guessing it's because the lender wants their money back.

Liability insurance is optional in some states, but required in others. There needs to be some way to hold the at fault driver responsible, and compensate the victims for their loss. Too many people do not take responsibility for their actions.

You would not want that if some jerk ran into your new car and said that he has no insurance to pay for the damage. Imagine if you were injured and there was no insurance to pay for the hospital? Think about it.

The only isurance that are mandated are the one that pay for you injuring someone else. And that is liability insurance. Don't you think that if I hit you in an auto accident the law should mandate that I or my insurance pay for what I did to you? Yes? That's why its the law.

Do you really think that anyone would purchase an Insurance policy, if it was optional? Not Hardly.

i think it should be optional because you can go through life and never have an accident. or they sould come up with a way for you to a least get all the money that you put into it back after a certian period of time if you never have an accident. good question - hope you like my answer. :)
