A good point.
Yet I hate to think that anyone takes mythology so seriously that they'd kill thier children.
But then again, some christians out there are actually gullible and stupid enough to believe this crap.
Pathetic if you ask me...

You took those out of Contex
The story of Isaac if you finish it was only a test. God, once Abraham was willing to give eveything he loved to God, told Abraham to stop and not sacrifice Isaac( you should finish the rest of the story before you make up lies.
Second the sons of Israel were not to be sacrificed ( as in killed) but to be raised as children of God.

Note the God stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son. It was a test of faith not meant at all to be a human sacrifice.

Also the word "consecrate" means to separate. God separated the first born which later became the priestly tribe of Levi. (no relation to the jeans)

It seems that to make your point, you've conveniently left out the important conclusion to the story. Remember what happens, just as Abraham is about to kill Isaac:
"Abraham reached out and took the slaughter knife to slit his son's throat. God's angel called to him from heaven and said, 'Abraham! Abraham! Do not harm the boy. Do not do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God. You have not withheld your only son from Him.' Abraham then looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. He went and got the ram, sacrificing it as an all-burned offering in his son's place."
The point of this narrative is to show that human sacrifice IS NOT what God wants from us!

As others have said, you need to take this in context. First of all, God did not allow Abraham to fulfill the sacrafice and kill his son; He stopped it and provided a ram for the sacrifice. This is a pre-figure of Christ dying in our place. So by using Abraham's faith and obedience, God was able to show thousands of years before the fact that His own Son would come to die in place of mankind.

Next, if you ask, why would God "test" Abraham that way - isn't that cruel? Well, you have to also put that in context. Abraham was from Ur in Mesopotamia, from a pagan background - and in that culture, as in many other pagan cultures, they did practice ritual human sacrifice. So how could Abraham's faith and belief in God be shown if he was unwilling to do what was commonplace for people of his time to do even to the pagan gods? In other words, if even the pagans sacrificed their children to their gods, wouldn't he have to do at least as much (if not more) if he was turning away from the pagan gods to the One he believed was the true God? So it was not a cruel test, but a true test of his faith. And yet again, God did not allow him to fulfill the sacrifice, or require it of him, since his willingness was proof of his faith.

Last but not least, this situation was unique to Abraham, whom God promised to make the "father of many nations". It was not a general commandment that everyone had to follow - because not everyone was to become the "father of many nations".

There are many things in the Holy Scriptures that are difficult to understand, but we need to inquire into them with an open mind and heart in order to learn what they really mean, and not just what we assume they mean from the words themselves. The words are not even always translated correctly, and often give rise to mistaken interpretations and understandings.

If we stop trying to prove that God is evil or doesn't even exist, we can spend more time coming to a true understanding of who He is and how much He loves us and has done for us - and is still doing for us every moment of every day.

Read the rest of the chapter in Genesis, Genesis chapter 22:7-18, God was only testing Abraham

first of all read the entire Genesis to understand why God wanted to do that. God was only testing Abraham, in the end God released Issac, and blessed him.

Whatever they might have done in those days, it is illegal today and punishable by death or a life sentence. We have evolved into a better society than they were.
By the way, there are people who want to bring those bad old days again.
