They do hurt. But believe me, they're worth it. Men love my teeth!

Braces only hurt when you get them tightened and it only feels sore for the first couple of days. You get them tightened every 4-6 weeks so 2 out of 40 or so days ISN'T BAD. (I usually have to take asprin during these days and can't eat food that require much chewing like chips or burgers.) Sometimes, you might get a cold sore because the wire scratches your mouth, but this can easily be solved with putting wax on the bracket (little metal thing that is glue to your tooth) or on the wire itself. The orthodontist usually gives you this wax for free. The first time you get the braces on doesn't hurt at all, but is more of an uncomfortable feeling because your mouth is open for so long.

P.S. Even if you have to get your teeth pulled, you get a shot to numb your mouth so you can't feel pain at all. And you barely even bleed! When I had to get my teeth pulled, I thought "I'LL DO IT FOR MY MOM!" and that was motivation enough. Everytime my braces are bothering me, I simply think about how good I'll look when I get them off (which is December) and everything is allright.

They hurt a little, each time the orthodontist tweaks them (once every 2-4 weeks), but you get used to it. It's nothing more than a soreness, which can be pretty annoying at times. Sometimes if he doesn't cut the wire (on the last back teeth) short enough, they dig into your cheeks. The parafin they give you will help with that, and you can just tell the orthodontist the next time you see him.

They hurt, but it's not too bad, and it makes your teeth look beautiful in the end.

Usually you have them on for 2-3 years, but it's different for every person. However, if you take good care of them once you get them on, I guarantee that you will be much happier because you will have straight teeth. Just a word of warning tho, it sometimes REALLY hurts. the first week or so, your mouth may feel really sore so try to stick to soft foods. sometimes they give you wax so that your braces don't rub against your mouth the first few weeks. also, it hurts when tighten it sometimes/most of the time...especially if they take off a bracket and put on a new one. but in the end, you will probably thank your mom when you get them off because u will have a perfect smile. :-D

When I got my braces on, it did not hurt when they were put on. It was really easy, you just had to keep your mouth open for a while. All they really have to do is glue each bracket on to your teeth. There is no drilling involved. Although, it did begin to hurt later! My teeth became soar and started to hurt. It goes away quickly though! You will get used to them in about 3-7 days. In the mean time, you just have to eat soft foods like soup. If it really starts to get on your nerves, take some motrin. And remember not to chew gum or eat hard foods! Just remember how nice your teeth will turn out when it is over!

Your dentist is lying! It's not the worst pain ever, but when they're first put on and every time they're tightened, my dentist told me that I'll be too sore to chew lettuce. Yep! It doesn't last, though. Be glad your mom is paying for it and not you. I got them, 20 years ago. I was already an adult and I had to make a payment plan for the $2000 it cost. Whatever you do, WEAR YOUR RETAINER!!! I didn't and my teeth have moved and there are gaps that food gets in. You can't see it, but it's annoying.

They hurt in the beginning until you get used to them ... then you have to get them tightened once a month and it hurts for a couple of days after wards. Eat sensibly while you have them ... ie: When I had mine on they actually broke off my molars on a pork rind. But don't worry, you'll be OK if you stay away from that kind of stuff. Don't ignore the rubber bands or you'll have them on longer than you need too. Good luck!!

you might end up having a few ulcers in your mouth.Thats what pains. You will need to take pain killers for the first three days and then thereis no pain at all.I wear braces for the past 10 months.Except for a few days after the treatment every moth you dont have any pain.

Dont worry. You can remove it in a year.It will only help you.Go ahed and wear it.

When you first get them on, of course it's going to hurt. But after 3-7 days it stops hurting.

I was excited to get my braces on, but now i've had them for 2 years and can't wait to get them off (IN A MONTH!!!)

You will be glad you've had braces.

Not everyone who needs braces will be fortunate enough to be able to aford them. I know this sounds ironic, but you are lucky.

i'm sure that it is a different experience for everyone, but when i got braces (about a year ago) it didn't hurt while they were putting them on. my mouth just got sore the next day and was sore for a while. Ibuprophen helped some and you might can try putting a washcloth soaked in warm//hot water in your mouth//on your teeth. Good Luck!

they put pressure on your teeth and they will hurt for the first couple days but you get used to the pain.

Might I suggest you get invisalign if your parents can afford it. It takes a lil longer than traditional metal braces and is more expensive but they're clear plastic trays that go over your teeth so they're much more attractive and almost impossible to notice.
