My bf's roommate had mono last week. Well, my bf's roommate is a guy and they don't kiss each other. They may cough on each other, but they're both straight. I went out with my bf last weekend and we kissed a bit. This weekend, this morning, I woke up with a headache and sore throat. I was tired all morning and afternoon. I took a nap and now I feel a little better, but who knows about tomorrow. I don't have a runny nose, fever or cough. Is it possible I caught mono somehow? or is it something else?

Yes, if you swap saliva. Why do you think they call it the kissing disease?

If you had Mono, you would be extremely tired and sleep at least 16-18 hours a day for at least 2 months. Not a morning and afternoon. Mono is airborne. You don't have to kiss anyone to get it. An infected person can spread it by coughing on you. To correct Julie D, there is no treatment for Mono. Therefore, not treating it does not cause other problems. It has to run its course until you feel better, and Mono takes at least 2 months to run it's course, sometimes longer. If your boyfriend's roommate was sick for only a week, he did not have Mono. Blood work is the only way to know for sure if you have Mono. Also, to correct Julie D again, once you have Mono, you do not always have Mono. You have Mono antibodies. The only thing you can do is rest. You have to make sure you are completely better before returning to exercising and sports, because your spleen could have enlarged and can then rupture during activity.

when i was 17 I was tired all of the time and would fall asleep hanging out with my friends. Then I broke out in hives and went to the doctor, she told me that i was in the outskirts of Mono, it had been close to 10 months since I had even been around anyone that had Mono. And during the time that I had mono I had a boyfriend and he didnt get it.

You can get mono by drinking out of the same glass, sharing anything that's been in someone with mono's mouth, you can also get it from getting coughed on.

could be mono or a virus or something else entirely. mono can spread via means other than kissing. sharing a glass is one way. maybe you got it from the roommate. then again, it may very well not be mono.

Yes, it is possible that you caught mononucleosis...mono, for short, is spread through kissing, also communicable through the air, or drinking from a water fountain where the tap was infected with mono...see your physician.
