There have been several good answers to this - John the Baptist, Malachi - all good answers. However remember that there were two Old Testament Prophets who never died, but were taken up into heaven for a time. The Bible tells us that in the final days, before the awesome coming of the Lord, they will re-appear on earth to prepare the way for the Lord's Second Coming. They are: Enoch, and Elijah. So in effect, they will be the last Prophets of Israel, before the awesome day of the Lord.

According to Jewish beliefs, Malachi is the last prophet. After his period of prophecy, Judaism (and Israel) turned to other forms of spiritual leadership: the continuing reign of the last Israelite kings, the preisthood (until they became corrupted) and then scholars/rabbis.

If youre talking the Mosiac covenant then it's John the Baptist . If youre talking Holy Writ, I'd say Malachi.

do you mean the last old testament prophet? then it would be malachi. but if you consider the new testament, then Jesus would be considered the last true, recorded prophet.
