Immigrants are part of the melting pot. No matter what country their from. Illegal aliens crossing the borders Illegally do not belong here and will never truly be Americans. There are legal ways to work here from other countries and legal ways to become an American citizen. If they won't work with the system that is in place, laws of punishment need to be enforced and followed through.

I would sugest it's more of a Gumbo all of cultures coming together, yet keeping some of our culture that was makes it great. People don't have problems when immigrant groups are will to become a part of culture while still celebrating their own. I think this is where the problems are starting. I am half Irish, and half Polish, My great grandparents were at a disadvantage until they learned the language and the culture. When my parents went to school they had to know english, however this respect is not gien by the hispanic immigrants. I find it very annoying when I go into a resturaunt and the menu is mainly in spanish, then the english menu is kind of hidden in the corner. I have no problem with anyone coming to make a better life, just don't force your culture on me.

Illegal immigrants are criminals and do belong in the melting pot until they set their record straight. If Americans snuck into Mexico, the Mexican authorities would consider them illegals and put them in jail. So why the dumb double standard? Because Mexico has a corrupt gov't, they want their citizens to jump the US border, make money to send back home to Mexico. It is all a monetary issue with Mexico.

Most immigrants from Europe that came over in the 18th and 19th and 20th centuries do so legally and waited for the proper citizenship papers. It is a shame that illegals from south of the border want to change the rules now. It's really a double standard.

That's going to happen no matter what on both sides of the border - the supreme court rightly held up our laws when they deported a man that has been here 25 years with a family.

Search out that question for all the support their is for it - paying taxes, length of time here, breaking the law to start a family - doesn't put you above the law. I would expect should I be illegally found in Mexico for the same thing to happen to me.

No, it is like iron and carbon remaining separate elements rather than melting into steel.

Of course, assimilation is one reason for reasonable immigration limits. When mass illegal immigration above those limits occur, you see the balkanization we are beginning to have instead.

Others melted and blended. Some are trying not too--not nice guest. Most follow laws. Others think they don't have too.

its really more of a salad bowl.

BTW, there is no law saying that anyone HAS to acculturate or speak English. It might be socially or economically advantageous to do so, but there is NO law (nor should there be. A monocultue is weaker than a varied culture).
