Columbia is the supplier and we are the demander.. but the reality of it is.. they are just farmers raising a crop.. they sell their lucrative main crop (coca leaves) to the people that refine it and make cocaine to export to the world (mostly the US)...
Columbia isn't the one with the drug problem they are just a supplier.. it is guilt by association. We are the problem by buying so much of the crap.
The US has a partnership with the Columbian government and together they take a mostly proactive approch on this by frequently going after the crops of the farmers that are knowingly selling the crops to the suppliers for the manufacturing of the drugs.. but coca leaves have other purposes as well.. The columbian goverment is easily corrupted by the major players in the drug trade..
More police and government officials in Columbia get rich by turning their heads or taking bribes than from the salaries they receive for being a law abiding servant to the goverment.. this is the drug problem of columbia.. the cops and lawmakers that keep their eyes closed and activly allow the coca leaves to get processed into drugs to get exported

Well columbia is big for it,but the sad issue with the whole drug situation is that the police come out in aggressive full force tactics against the poor victims of these so called drug lords--the addicts. They are being arrested, beaten(a lot of the time-to death)While they avoid the big guys, thats too hard,-lets just beat up on the addicts, and show the public that we are doing something about the drug problem.
