I'm not even sure how this "ghost" business works. When you die, do you get stuck wearing whatever clothes you had on at the moment of death, or do you get to pick an outfit? Can you change clothes anytime, just like in life? Can you update your fashions throughout the seasons? Come to think of it, I only ever hear of ghosts wearing whatever clothes they had on.
Also, how do they know what places to haunt? Some of them haunt their place of death, others haunt their childhood home or the school they went to. What if you're haunting a school and it gets demolished and replaced with a shopping mall? Do you then spend all of eternity haunting the Gap store that just happens to be right over where your math classroom used to be?

In most cases of Ghost hunting's, where the ghost appeares in clothing is normaly where a powerful event forged a imprint in the house. Almost like a recording. So the ghost/ghosts would appear as they did.
In those cases, the ghost would follow a same path, like walk down the hallway at say 3 am every night.
Or otherwise appear as orbs as they mostly do.

I don't believe in ghosts, but I do believe in clothes. I shop for clothes often just to prove that I believe.

I believe that ghosts and apparitions are visual projections of dead people who are remembered by the living. The more people remember something, the stronger the image will present itself. This could explain why, for example, people who lived in a house will appear as apparitions.
So, if they are remembered with their clothes on, their images will appear that way. Just a theory.
Also you can read this article (not connected with my theory):

I believe in clothes for neither ghosts nor beautiful women. Clothes are alright for dudes and fat chicks though.

I don't believe in ghosts at all. I used to, until my church pastor explained that they're just familiar spirits (demonic entities). It's
not a subject you should be concerned about. Interests like that could lead to the occult. Very dangerous.
