U have to MAKE SURE that ur friend doesn't have feellings for this guy!!!!!! Yeah, they're broken up, they're not gonna get back together, but then ur the rebound, that's not a good place to be. Ur friend might even say it's ok, but give it some time anyway, u NEED to really know that ur friend is ok with u dating her x. I know a girl who lost a friend over this same issue, her friend told her not to date the x, but she did anyway, and the frienship was over. I also have another friend who dated his friends x with his blessing, but had to break up with her because he saw that his friend still had feelings for the girl.

...boy, I dunno.. that's dangerous.. I don't think much of anyone else answering this will give ya the green light here.. (happened to too many other people before and hell, it hurts!) You're already in deep doo-doo w/the ex (hurt, like) THEN you lose 2 people (the best friend!) Can you like wait a while? I mean, wait a year (I know, long time.. have fun w/somebody else til it runs out) and then see if you feel so strong for this dude. It's tempting to want somebody else's boyfriend since you've seen him 'on his best behavior' (let's hope) with your gf.. You probably got **** in common w/both of 'em, right? sure you do. Do me a favor and don't say anything either bout this to the best friend.. (****, she'll hate you and hell you haven't even DONE anything..) give it a rest. later (melancholia)

Unless there's an actual marriage involved, don't sweat it.
But it will save you some fighting if you just asked your friend if it's okay with her. Out of "politeness" she'll probably say it's okay, then you're covered!
If she says it's not okay, you're going to have to smooth it out with her, or just make a choice.

i dated my best friend's ex, after she moved on and was okay with it. we dated longer than they did but it still did not last; we are no longer together. if someone was dumped, it was usually for a good reason. take that knowledge and save yourself some time.

As silly as it sounds..I would talk to the best friend. Get her/his opinion cause if your really close friends...it could hurt them.

if u really like him explain it to ur friend and see how she takes it...
then go for it if she is over him
true friends will be happy for u
just make sure that he is over her too
and that it has been a while since they date
