ohh, you.
highschool is amazing.
i'm going to be a sophomore this fall, and freshman year was great. at the open house, meet as many people as you can! just chat with them for a little bit, and then on the first day of school you can be like, oh yeah, i remember you from open house! and then you'll have something to talk about.
don't worry about getting lost; i got lost in my highschool for at least the first month and a half. right when i thought i'd gotten it down, i'd get confused again. don't worry about it. no one will even notice if you're lost, unless you go into the wrong classroom or something silly like that >< haha.
at lunch, just sit next to someone that you recognize [& that you've talked to] from one of your morning classes, and talk about like your schedules or something.
do sports, join clubs, whatever makes you happy.
good luck!
& they say every year of highschool gets to be more and more fun!
oh, and, don't be too shy!!

Don't worry about getting lost, like you said, everyone does. Just pay really good attention to the tour, and there will also be several maps on the wall (usually near the fire extinguishers) showing exit routes. Note where they are during the tour, they can be helpful. You could also ask the tour guide for a map, they probably have one, or ask in the front office your first day.

As for lunchtime, there are lots of kids just like you, the quiet ones, or the shy ones. It may take you a few days, but you'll find each other. Or you could talk to people in classes before lunch, the ones who seem friendly, and arrange to meet at lunch. If you are pleasant & friendly, they WILL come to you. Perhaps you are shy, but there are sure to be other kids even shyer than you. Try to think of it that way; no matter how terrified you are, there is sure to be someone more terrified than you. Be confident. You have a lot to offer, many people would be thrilled to have you for a friend. If you are in the same school district, you will know some people from middle/junior high school. And actually, if you are going to a totally new school, where noone knows you, you can reinvent yourself a bit, that could be fun.

Good luck, and try not to worry too much. New schools can be scary, but they are an opportunity for growth, too.

You should get a family member to go with you to the open house tour. It will help you feel more comfortable to have someone you feel comfortable with on the tour. Also smile alot it puts ppl at ease and lets them know that your approachable. You will see some kids at the Open house that you will see at school also. You should be able to make some connections before lunch on the first day. If not then just look for the friendliest faces and politely ask," may I sit here"? Or just act like your in a big hurry and very hungry and just sit somewhere and eat... Really it will be fine. Just about everyone has the "first day jitters". I'll say a little prayer for you too. Chin up and just be you.

High school-yeah, been there, would not like to do it again.
Anyway, we are talking about you. Do not worry if you get lost. I remember when I had to tour my high school. It was so big, they gave all the freshmans a map of the school to study and to know your way around it! A map, for God's sakes! That is how big it was. And, lunch time, sit somewhere no one else sits at, and, just let people come to you. That is all.

i think u dont need to be that nervous
i know it may be really hard but u jus got to be your self an act as if u know what to do
if the older teens see that your relly nervous they might try to take advantage of u an u dont want that
so jus play it cool an that thing about letting people come to u..... u try an go to a person for a change
an when your going to sit for lunch go by a table with someone u may recongise from your classs or something
or go by a table that does not have many people
but make sure its not like the really older teens u go by
goood luck

Another good idea is to join clubs, sports teams, or drama ASAP! You'll find people with a similar interest, and you'll be garunteed time to get to know them. Amnesty International has great human rights stuff, wrestling team is good for guys and girls of any age and any size (I met my girlfriend on a wrestling team, she was 15 years old and 106 pounds!) ROTC counts as a P.E. credit in most schools, and that's a great way to meet people as well. GOOD LUCK! Remember, freshman year blows no matter what, the most popular kids in school hate it just as much as the dorkiest of the nerds.

Sure, high school's nervous for like the first 2 days. After that, it's pretty cool. My advice: go to the open house and find someone to talk to. Get to know that person and walk around with him/her. Bottom line: talk to people and be funny! (You'll then definitely attract people!)

don't worry - everyone gets lost their first few days - high schools are a lot bigger than middle schools
may i suggest with your lunch problem: try and make friends with someone sitting near you in your class period before lunch and walk with them during lunch to eat with their friends. they may not become your good friends for the rest of high school, but its a start and you wont be sitting alone
