The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a small, enveloped, single-stranded, positive sense RNA virus in the family Flaviviridae.

The hepatitis B virus is a member of the Hepadnavirus family. It consists of a proteinaceous core particle containing the viral genome in the form of double stranded DNA with single-stranded regions and an outer lipid-based envelope with embedded proteins.

Transmission of the viruses and signs and symptoms of both are remarkably similar.

Both are viruses that preside in the liver. Both are detected by the presence of antibodies. There is a vaccine for hep B. Hep C used to be known as "non A non B hepatitis" until 1989 when the actual virus was isolated. Both viruses pose a significant risk of cirrosis and liver cancer over time, especialy when concurrent. Treatment for both involve low fat / low protein diet - no alchohol or other liver stressors. When liver starts to present damage, pygylated interferon and ribovarin are prescribed - this chemotherapy is difficult and expensive - makes you sick. The only difference between hep B & C is their gene sequence.

Hep C can cause you to go into liver failure after you become infected with it. However, with proper treatment it can be avoided so you won't need the organ transplant.

Hep B is an infectious disease and can be very dangerous. However, I am not a doctor and I cannot remember exactly how you get it or if there is any medical treatment for it.

I wish you best of luck if you just discovered you tested positive for either of these diseases.

medical science is amazing, I should know since 17 yrs ago I underwent a successful kidney transplant.

take care my friend
