Certainly He could. There is nothing that God can't do. However, if He were to make such a boulder, then there would be something he couldn't do.

Where is it written that God can't relinquish His omnipotence?

Imaginary creatures generally don't do that.

But assuming He does exist, I would say the answer is yes. If he is omnipotent, he wouldn't be able to make the boulder because then he wouldn't be omnipotent. It would be like being able to live forever or invincible, but still being able to die. It just doesn't work like that. Now if he's omnipotent and can't be able to make the boulder, he's not very omnipotent, now is he?

Therefore, since omnipotence is a logical impossibility, we have to ask ourselves if he could create something outside his own powers. I would say yes, because we can put together things that weigh more than we can lift or control.

See, this is the result of bad theology. The first thing you have to understand is that this question is not truly a paradox. The idea that "God can do anything" is shattered by the definition of who God is. If God is perfect, then he has never sinned (rebelled against his own nature, for us sin is rebelling against God). For God to remain perfect, he must never sin. Therefore, God cannot sin. By definition, he is already not all powerful because not everything is within his power. This renders the question uselss and void of any meaning, because answering it accomplishes no goal other than having an answer. Answering "yes he can" merely states the obvious. God is not omnipotent in ways. He is only all powerful within the scope of who he is.

When it comes to doign things according to his nature, yes, he is all powerful. Undertaking the suggested taks is a complete waste of time, therefore it is not in the scope of what his nature is.

Everything God does is done in wisdom. Wisdom being the most perfect way to do a thing.

So? Why would He want to do such dumb things as your question if asking?

Read the bible and seek first the Kingdom of God instead of sitting around thinking up silly questions.

Yes, He can. No matter how light the stone is or how big or small it is. Even if it is a small pebble, He could make a commandment that nobody must lift it. By making such a commandment then not even He can lift it, because he cannot break the commandment.

i asked a question just like this and got a lot of answers from people who didn't like the fact that their way of thinking might be flawed.
